Hello -

I hope I have navigated to the appropriate place. I need to find a good body shop in the south east probably who can quote for the stuctural rust just discovered on my 1990 H reg 944 s2 cab. Anyone with a rough idea of what the costs would be? Cills are pretty bad too.. Have you had this repair on your car? I am based in Hampshire. HELP. (I am a Club member)

Hi CarolRP. If you don't find anyone nearer to you & are up for a trip to Reading, I can heartily recommend Specialised Paintwork (http://www.specialisedpaintwork.com/home.htm).

They are based (almost) next door to Porsche GB. They did a lot of work on a 911 I previously owned & my current Mercedes. All work was of excellent quality. They will also be used to sort out my new 944 in the near future.

Alan & Karl (the owners) are very friendly and are always happy to talk through the work required & offer estimates either in person or over the phone.

Best of luck with sorting out your car.

Carol I have just spoken to Jon who runs www.jmgarage.co.uk and is currently repairing the bodywork on my car. Give him a call and he will certainly help you out or point you to one of his recommended bodyshops in the Hampshire area

There is a small Porsche specialist garage on one of the roads to Salisbury from the A303 . Is that anywhere near you ?

Thanks Creamray -

This sounds like a good option to look at. I know where Porsche Reading is located.
There could be a bit of a delay, but I shall give them a ring.

This is helpful George. The sills are looking very unattractive at the moment so I dread to think what all that stuff I cannot see looks like.

It looks like I will need another job at the weekends then.

Thankyou for your post.
Carol

Hi Paul.

Thanks for the recommendation. I have just looked at Jon's website which is impressive. Do you have your car down in Dorset or does he have more than one workshop?
Unfortunately I couldn't see more than the homepage as the side headings were not responding to clicks.
I have had a couple of body work jobs done in the past which were quite expensive and just didn't last. So it is helpful to know there are genuinely good repairers.
I will let you know when I get going on this and appreciate your reply. Thanks, Carol.

Used to live in Salisbury Peanut. Can you remember which road? I know the 303 like an old friend as I have spent a large part of my life travelling up and down to schools in Dorset and family in Somerset. I would like to look at this option further too. Regards, Carol

MR performance cars. The only ppl I trust right now with my car are those guys and Jon Mitchell. I have used MR on and off for about 5 years. They tend to pick up and drop back your car for no charge other then petrol. They are one of those garages that have a cheap hourly rate but are not that cheap because they put a lot of time and attention into cars.

Well I live up in the Midlands but my car seems to have a preference for spending months on end at the seaside [:D]

If you are a bit further north in Hampshire, then Specialiesd at Reading have always been highly recommended as George said

Nice one Neil thanks. I remember the name now I see it lol[:D]

I have also spent my life on the A303. I can remember back to when the A303 went through Ilchester and Ilminster high streets . Unbelieveable !.....

Shocking really when you consider the traffic load.

ISTR the village MR are in is South Newton. All I can remember is that it is on the Wilton road way into Salisbury and is behind a secondhand car dealership called something like country cars or something. Its basically the first thing you hit when entering the village. ISTR there is some sort of relationship between the businesses because every time I have popped in there they have some tempting secondhand Porsche's. The last was a perfect 968CS without all the decals for something like £11K.

My personal take on specialists and car sales is that I will not trust anyone in the business that sells rough cars, unless of course they are ofloading them for bugger all. After all if you are in the trade then surely you would get a car to look pretty sorted before trying to sell it on to Joe Bloggs.

Thanks Neil - I know that road through Wilton well, once having lived at Old Sarum.
When you said about the Porsche 968CS being perfect without the decals for £11K did you mean that it seemed like a good place to buy a second hand Porsche. ie that probably the specialist behind had done a good job on it? Carol
