Hi, I am relatively new to Porsche ownership having just purchased a 944s2.
I was wondering if anyone has a record of when the first S2 was sold in the UK, I am only wondering as since receiving my certificate of authenticity which showed mine as being registered on 2/2/1989 and produced on the 17/1/1989 which I presume is quite early?
Thanks
Paul

Mine was registered 7/2/89 but when I was stripping and rebuilding it most of the parts had Oct 88 on them. So I can only assume it was built in late 88 pr very early in 89.

registered only 5 days after mine so again a very early car, would be interesting to know when the first S2 came into the UK as on everything I have read so far states they first went on sale in the spring of 1989, obviously ours are well before that.
Just out of interest my 944s2 badge on the rear is perfectly straight and all the other S2's I have seen have the 2 slightly offset below the S, is your straight or offset?

Welcome to S2 ownership Paul.
My S2 is another registered on 07/02/1989 which was the date I'd previously assumed S2's were first made available to Porsche dealerships. My S2 was a demo at Merlin's in Cardiff from that date and had amassed 3600 miles by early April '89 when it had it's first service stamp and was also sold to it's first private owner. So, with yours having an 02/02/89 registration date you might just have the earliest S2 in the UK knocking about! Do you know who the first registered owner was? Also a Porsche dealer maybe? You can get DVLA to send you the details of previous owners for a £5 fee which is always a nice touch for the history file of the car.
My S2 badge is offset - they just don't look right with the '2' in a straight row.
Best of luck with the new purchase.
Mark

Don't forget that Porsche's model year 1989 ran from September 1988 to July 1989, so a winter 1988 car would be called a 1989. They'd be stockpiling parts in advance of production of the S2, and it takes time to build them and ship to the UK, deliver to a dealer and get first registration, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were 1988 part numbers on a car registered in Feb 1989.

Interesting to see that model year 1989 they produced 7600, but in 1990 and 1991 only 3300 and 3100. That shows how deep the recession was, and how fast it hit prestige car sales!

S2 badge should look like this:

I have this template if you need it:

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the reply, I have applied to the DVLA for the previous owners as I am only aware of those back to 1999 as the earlier history has been lost over the years so hopefully that will answer a few questions.
I am aware it was delivered to Chariots of Oxford unfortunately they no longer exist so I am not able to ask them if they have any details/information.
My chassis number ends 1930 and engine number 286 if that is of assistance?
It would be great to find out when the first S2 came to the UK so I guess just hope someone on the forum has the answer.
But aside from all that I am looking forward to getting her back to her former glory, fortunately most is just cosmetic due to the age.
At some time it would be good to get the earliest ones together...
Regards

Paul

My car was registered in Glasgow. The big parts of the car carry Oct 88 build dates so I can only assume Porsche were getting parts made and gathered together for a few months before they started building them. Porsche seem to have written the dates on them with some kind of marker pen.
