944 s2 gear change problem

Hi , can anyone advise on how to eliminate looseness in the gear lever mechanism...it is not the gear selector or gearbox , but an issue with the linkage ....is their a linkage outwith the box itself that can be replaced at the gearbox end of the car ...
has anyone had this problem ...it makes getting into gear a bit of lottery sometimes ...

does anyone have any workshop manual or diagrams of the gear box linkage ..for a 1991 s2 .

please advise as i intend , asking a local garage to try and fix it and would appreciate advise ..and whether I need to purchase any parts ...
I don't think it internal to the box as it seems more like looseness in the gearshift link

It's bushes, Jon Mitchell at 9xx in Bournemouth has a repair kit or replacement stick or something for it. I forget exactly which as mine was worn. Search and there is info on here about it.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I'd be careful with a local garage as it's easy to run up big bills for troubleshooting with general mechanics who don't know the common problems on these cars, and worst case they can do more harm than good.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Thanks ...good start , can you provide a little more detail on the dealer that supplies the kit...i had looked through forum replies and can see no other reference

Changing the linkage at the rear helps, (standard £80 IIRC or short shift kit) and changing the inner gearstick and the nylon cup it sits in at the front (circa £25 and £5) though sleeving the tube on the linkage running front to back is often also required to remove the last of the slack.
