944 S2 length to get in my garage - 4200mm?

Its not just the length you need to consider. If you've only got a couple of centimetres to spare once the car is in you might not get the door shut! If its an up and over door they use quite a bit of space as they come down, mine only just clears the rear of my 944S2 (with bridge spoiler which won't flex like the earlier rubber ones) and theres a good 10cm clearance from the back of the car to the door once its shut, just worth a thought [;)]

With that in mind I've just checked my 944S2 manual and believe it or not, length bumper to bumper is 4230mm so thats 423cm so you might struggle [:(] but then just park it outside and get a pre 996 model 911 for the garage, they're quite a bit shorter [:D] [;)]

Ouch I didn't think of the up and over door. Currently fit a VW Corrado VR6 in there just fine thats 4050 mm long. The 944 will be 15cm longer than that - I'll park my Corrado 15cm further back to try it out - fingers crossed. What height is the bridge spoiler at approximatley? I have plenty of width thankfully.

Thanks for that, I'm going to have to try and get an S2 in garage before I buy aren't I! Hmmm anyone near Lancaster willing to try their car in a tight garage [:(]

Of course if you reversed it in that might solve the problem with the door as obviously the front is much lower than the back [;)]

When i went to veiw my house the first thing i did was measure the garage because if the car didnt fit i was'nt buying the house,my fiance thought i was mental but according to the estate agent its not as uncommon as you would think !!

Hi all - seriously looking at buying a 944 s2.

My single garage measures 423cm long. Now I know its close (ouch) but a Morgan book I have says the length of the 944 is 4200mm = 420cm. The thing thats worrying me is that for a 944 - is a 944 S2 any different overall?

How exact is this figure? The 968 is 9cm longer according to an american website.

Has anyone measures their 944 S2 that can give me confirmation it will fit my garage?

Of course I'll be joining the club when I have the car :)

I am very surprised by this. I tell people that I rent a garage and they ask me what I store in it. You should see the funny looks I get when I tell them it's a car!!!

Sometimes we watch those housebuying programmes, and sometimes the garage is put forward to be sacrificed to be an office / studio / bdroom etc. Without fail I find myself involuntarily shouting that the screen "it's a ******* garage!". Having said that I didn't keep my daily driver in either of the single garages we've had as getting it in and out (and getting in and out of it) simply isn't worth it - how small to UK house builders think cars are? A pukka double or bigger garage is a fantatsic asset however.

I've also had a couple of corrados in the past, & the S2 doesn't seem significantly bigger! My previous car was a Mitsubishi FTO, & the S2 fits in the garage easier than that did! Not that I'm trying to persuade you to buy mine or anything [;)] Cheers, Robbo

Im not sure of the vehicles length, but remember that most information on t'internet will relate to American models, which have an extended aluminium rear bumper with massive rubbing strips on it...

[:)] Any chance you can measure your 944 s2 then - as if I can't get one in the garage I won't be buying one! [;)] So far I have the length at 4200mm from Morgan, and 4230mm from the owners handbook which is uncomfortably tight.

The best idea is definitely going to be to try and find a kind soul locally who will attempt a test run at parking with you. Maybe go along to your local regional club meeting and ask if anyone can help?

S2/turbo body is 4230mm long, 1735mm wide and 1275mm high. I'd not even consider getting one before trying someone's car in your garage if it's that tight. I'm sure that the local regions of PCGB or Tipec would have a friendly 944 owner willing to help! [:)]

Aha, just had a proper look at my up and over door. Its mounted some way inboard of the front garage wall. I think I can re-mount the garage door flush with the wall, giving me 40mm more room. Removing the opening mechanism linked to the handle on the door will give me 30mm more room. I can modify it to open the door from the inside only using rope or maybe modify the mechanism some.

I did the same thing! I also wanted to ensure I could get the car in and work on one side of it at a time.

Thanks all for the input but the S2 search has to go on hold until I have resolved my garage space issue. Re-mounting the door looks like the way forwards, it also looks like I shall need to build a wooden ramp as an S2 sits closer to the ground than my Corrados.
