Hi i am looking for anyone who has a maf conversion on there s2 , whitch is best and is there a cheap kit available
many thanks Neil

Not sure which is best the MAF conversion for the S2 but I have used a SciVision for several years and it has peformed troublefree since day one.
It's not cheap but it nicely improves throttle response, is a quick & easy fit, and if ever the sensor goes wrong (mine hasn't yet) it should be easily available from any Bosch supplier at a decent price.

Does it actually make any difference? Quicker throttle response ... as in, more power? More torque?

Well, my S2 has felt a bit more lively and faster with it, however I never had it on a rolling road to measure the gains.
I would say it is a worthwhile upgrade for the gains in throttle response alone.

Coupled with a chip designed by the guy running SciVision, a German reg '91 S2 made 235.9 PS on a rolling road in Germany.

This is expensive indeed (didn't pay that much for mine) but in my experience the price/unit would drop in the scheme of a group buy.

That's a LOT of cash!

Identifying the component parts and doing it yourself would be a LOT cheaper (although a lot more hassle. And you'd need to work out the converter chip.)

Over £700 is a large price to pay for a little more crispness in throttle response. That's about 1/5th of the value of a decent S2 these days, and far too much for my budget.

Here you go chaps. For those that couldnt be bothered looking in the for sale section, ive given you the link....

It gave my car a LOT better throttle response + made the car that much more enjoyable to drive... Not sure of any increase in BHP but it definately felt better....
As far as im aware, this IS the only one that is currently for sale in the UK...

I wouldn't be without the MAF conversion on my white car, the throttle response is razor sharp and seems to take years off the age of it.

Considering that the AFM/MAF readings are disregarded at higher revs by the DME; a third party ECU which ditches the AFM and utilises a MAP sensor would be preferable and not prohibitive price wise (relative to the cost of the MAF kits new). This will open the door to improved injector control/firing and allow the upgrade to wasted spark/coil pack based ignition too. It bares thinking about, I think.....

For a proper MAF conversion i.e. not a simple AFM - MAF signal converter sticky plaster solution, the MAF would regulate fuel throughout the whole rev range. The only reason why a AFM has mapped fuelling according to RPM and throttle position is because the barn door is fully open from about 4krpm so therefore is not able to measure airflow any more so the motronic looks to other sensors.

The tricky thing about MAF conversion, if you are retaining the motronic ECU, is not the integration of the MAF sensor - that is relatively striaght forward, but it is the interface with the motronic allowing the MAF to be used properly i.e. fuelling based on air mass calculations and not airflow. The Scivision kit incorporates a small computer which carries out all the mass airflow calcs in real time and provides the correct fueling signals to the motronic system. These things take alot of time to develop and test before a safe saleable solution can be offered. That is where the expense comes from and not simply the cost of the component parts.
