944 S2 nose/bumper cover

Hello,

I'm a new owner of a euro (Japan) spec 944 S2 but me and the car are in Canada.

The car is in great shape, save for a cheapie repair to the fiberglass nose, so I wish to locate a replacement. Due the car being a euro model, I need to get a nose from your side of the Atlantic, as the NA cars have large marker lights on the outside front corners, which my euro car does not.

I'm looking for knowledge on suitable replacement parts. Does anyone have any experience with parts from TEILECAR? Would a new nose from these folks be a good choice?

suggestions appreciated

regards

Mark

Can't help with TEILECAR but I think the noses are plastic, not fibreglass.

I seem to recall that someone on here some time ago had a Japanese-spec S2. Anyone remember who?

Teilecar are good for GRP panels, but very expensive for used parts. The panels is usually referred to as a PU (from polyurethane, but its actually made of ABS). It wont really matter here, but you can find out what market your car was built for by looking on the build sticker (inside rear panel between lamps or page 2 of service book). The country code is a C and two numbers. Over the years Japan has had RHD and LHD country codes because Japs like the cachet that comes from driving a LHD car and they also have cars imported from Europe, too.

ORIGINAL: 944 man
... Japs like the cachet that comes from driving a LHD car

That's something I learned while doing work experience at Rover in Longbridge back in the 1990's. And I never understood why - and still don't. 'Wrong side' driving is always a bit tricky at the best of times, and I can't understand anyone choosing it in preference to 'right side' driving. (I know that there are people who think it's a good idea but I've never been convinced.)

My car is LHD.

What is meant by "GRP panels" above?

I'm ok with the cost of a new nose from TEILECAR as long as the quality is high, as labour to make a used or poor part look perfect will exceed the cost of starting out with a good part.

Cheers

GRP/fibreglass. The nose/PU of a 944 Turbo/S2 isn't made out of fibreglass, it is made out of ABS plastic.

If it is fibreglass then it isn't original and this raises the question as to how it is mounted. You need to remove it and ensure that the correct parts are still in place (particularly the aluminium bumper and mountings). Everything other than the PU and the combined driving & fog lamps are the same as found on North American cars though, so youd be able to source those locally.

Thanks for the input all.

I haven't pulled the part from the car yet. Will update when I do. As the nose has been fixed once, and not so well, I may be looking for an OEM nose from a RoW car once I'm ready to start that chapter of restoration.

Cheers

Mark
