944 S2 - will disconnecting the battery set the alarm off?

I have a 1990 944S2 with standard alarm and immobiliser.
I need to replace an electric window switch and also some interior light fittings.
They seem to permanently have power to them so will need to disconnect the battery first. I'm worried that doing this will set the alarm off as i live in a very quiet area (and don't want to have a heart attack either).

So, stupid question - will disconnecting it set the alarm off?


 
hmm.. not sure about that..most alarms have a built-in battery so that a thief can't just disconnect the power, mine certainly does as do Clifford's...is the factory alarm different?
 
My factory alarm has a backup battery that causes it to go off whenever power is disconnected. Whether it was set or not makes no difference, if the power is cut then a simple circuit makes the sounder go off. So if you've ever disconnected the battery before and the alarm didn't go off, you'll probably be fine. In my case the keyswitch on the sounder was set to disable the alarm in this event. Eventually the backup battery leaked and stopped the alarm working at all. I was able to get it going again by removing the battery.
 
Sounds like it may go off if the battery is disconnected. If that's the case, how do you switch it off? It can't be healthy to be working on the car with the alarm blaring!!
 
There should be a keyswitch on the alarm box (under the bonnet). If you don't have the key, stuff a rag in the alarm box to quieten it, unplug it, disassemble it and cut the wire to the battery.
 
My S2 doesn't alarm when the battery is removed either.... I suspect that as the car will be unlocked the alarm isn't primed.

Are you sure yours is a factory alarm Rob? I thought only the late S2's (90/91?) had a factory fitted alarm with the alarm module down in the footwell With the ECU. I understood that earlier cars had dealer fitted units with the module under the passenger seat as a result of desire to reduce the insurance bracket. My late car has a factory fitted alarm and it doesn't go off when the battery is disconnected. Maybe the dealer fit ones have a backup battery?
 
I thought that all alarms and immobilisers were Hamilton and Palmer units that were dealer-fit when the cars arrived on UK soil. I can't vouch for this but am fairly sure I was told it some time back.

My '89 S2 had a H&P alarm and I'm pretty sure it had the control box in the passenger footwell. It also had a H&P immobiliser and I think the control box for that was under the passenger seat. The immobiliser failed soon after I bought the car and the alarm was removed as it was laughably out of date and easy to bypass.

Looks identical to mine!

I suppose mine must be a dealer fit then, it has certainly been there from new.

On mine the keyswitch was already switched off by the previous owner and the battery leaking and not working.

I cant find anything anywhere about this control box - even on the internet. Would be amazing to find a user guide. I dont suppose you have one for yours?
