Hi,

Maybe a stupid question but can you just pull the outer rubber seal from the windscreen to allow for a respray or do you have to pull the whole windscreen?
Its a 1989 S2
Thanks

Just had my screen replaced i removed the rubber trim myself in case it got damaged it goes back in easy rubber grease /fairy liquid

Thanks, hopefully I'll go with giving it a pull seeing as you have just had your screen replaced and I take it yours is an S2?

Regards

Paul

I had my car resprayed with the windscreen in but with the windscreen seal out. Take note that the ends of the seal tuck under the wings by about 2" which I believe is intended to stop water getting down inbetween the wing and the A pillar. So to refit the windscreen seal properly, you really need to take the wings off!

When I wanted to check behind the seal and apply some rust proofing I lifted it and pushed some electric cable along behind it, may be enough to paint under the seal.

Yes, that would work. Or you could pull the seal out with the exception of the ends trapped under the wings and just tape it up into a bundle for the respray and then refit it.

My wings were off anyway so I removed the seal completely for the respray.

Lol. When my roof was painted I was told the screen needed to come out! Which it did. Thankfully I got a brand new one for buttons fitted afterwards!

Thanks for the replies guys, will have a look at pulling the seal which seems in good condition to see if there is ample room to tape around the screen for the re-spray.

When you pull it out it should be furry on the flat part of the underside, stops it squeaking on the paint and glass.

replaced mine as the furry part had rotted off over the years, amazing how much quieter the car was, so many less squeaks
