Good morning,

I have read previously about a clip behind the dash that breaks and and leaves the temp dial ineffective.

I have also found a pic ture on the forum showing the broken clip. I have emailed this to my OPC (Edinburgh) who are having trouble finding it on the PET system. John in parts thinks it is a control module and has sent me an exploded diagram from PET.

Does anyone have a part-number or is it item 21 on illustration 013-00 as said OPC beleive?

Thanks in advance ...

Derek

PS. Hope everyone who is going to the Fun Day Out in Edinburgh has a great day and the weather is better than today.

My advice would be to ring Exeter OPC on 01392 822800 and get them to post you one. It's a cheap part, but if you mention "the forum" you might get a few pennies off as well.

I had the same thing with my old 944.
It's called a heater link bush and the part number is 944.572.314.00.
My OPC took ages to find it on their diagrams too.
It cost 39p but they gave it for free!

I've just fixed a similar problem on my car - the heater was continually blowing hot air, but at varying temperatures.

The small round grille covering the temperature sensor on the dashboard was broken, so I got a replacement from the OPC at Kendal. When I came to fit it, I realised that there was nothing behind it, so I took the glove compartment out, and found that the rubber tube had become disconnected and I guess it was only taking in cool air from the footwell, so the car assumed that it needed to blow warm air in!

I've connected it up again and secured it in place for now with a small tie-wrap, and the temperature is back to normal. Now that's a cheap fix!

Well done George you have just found the famous 'unknown pipe' which caused us many weeks of discussion about 6 years ago when we first started using the Titanic email forum [:D]

While you were in there it would have been a good idea to take the other end off an check for lint in the fan intake as that also dampens the ability to control temperature.

Probably a broken clip linking two rods down the side of the glove box. Pop the liner out and take a look to the right of where it came from. There is a picture on here somewhere if you search.

Thanks - I'll do that.

Following Fen's advice, I disconnected the tube, and sure enough, it was completely blocked with lint at the other end. I cleaned this out, then noticed that the small fan intake was also blocked. This is held in place by two nuts on a metal bracket which are easily accessed. I took this off, then unclipped the casing to the fan (carefully!). I cleared all the debris from between the fan blades and around the small delicate temperature sensor, popped the whole lot back into position, and now it's possible to feel a gentle stream of air being sucked in to the small circular vent on the dash. The whole heating / cooling now works much better. Total job time - 20 minutes - 10 of which is removing refitting the glove box liner. Easy!
