944 sills

Anyone out there got a spare set of genuine Porsche 944 sills they don't need? I ve seen some cheaper repair panels on eBay but would prefer to do the job right.

Porsche is the lace for the genuine panels. A pair came up recently unused, but it's rare someone would buy both and not need them. Speak to Glenn at Leicester PC for the best price unless you've got a friendly local Porsche Centre, and Club discount will be worth it on two sill panels. If it's only the outer sill, there's an alternative that's cheaper and has good reports for fit. The Porsche panel is the full box section.

Hi Oli,

I think they're probably the ones for sale on eBay from classiccarpartsandpanels.co.uk. I've looked into these and they seem to be the best bet for me as the top section of the sill is fine. There's also a repair section for the front of the rear wheel arch (after the sill repair panel) which I'm going to need. The downside is when I contacted them I was told that the current lead-time is 8 weeks and (of course) I wanted them yesterday! I'll see if I can post some piccies as I'm doing the job...

That's the one, John. Once there's some feedback about the quality and fit then there's no reason they can't go in the list of recommended suppliers. I was initially dubious about the price, as at £100 they seemed poor value compared to the Porsche (significantly better) sill section for £160. Trouble is, availability of the genuine ones seems patchy, and the cost was higher now.

I've gone for the aftermarket ones with the rear wing lower repair sections (mine are horrible). They should be delivered early April so will post some piccies of how easy (or not) the fitment is.

my cab is in the process of having the sills and wing bottoms replaced, the sills were actually good when taken back to bare metal other than 2 little pin holes that were cut out. the wing bottoms have been cut out and new sections put in ( ones that i ordered from classic car parts).

i visited the bodyshop last week to see how they are getting on with the old girl, and even though the basic shape of the wing bottom repair panels were there, they needed quite a bit of work to make them fit properly according to the bodyshop guys. the offside front wing bottom actually took a full day to fettle and weld into place to fit properly.

just be aware that although the sills and wing bottom repair panels are of a basic fit, they will still need work to fit.

hth,

Al.

Yep, from what I gather the curve from the sill to the wheelarch is the pain and I want a bare minimum of filler!

I know I'm a bit late to the party but I've just changed my sills for the ones from classic-car parts and panels.

I can say that the quality is excellent, made of fairly thick steel. Price was good too.

I also got the 8 week rhetoric - however I got them to do it in about 1 week by asking nicely (They said 4 weeks but lo and behold they arrived)

Would recommend, and as soon as they are done get a underseal spray gun and a tube on the end and fill the inside of the sills with a lot of underseal and you should be able to preserve them for a long time!

Hi Everyone,

I haven't been on this forum for a while because my car has been off the road for the last eight years, after I was made redundant and establishing my own business.

I'm going to need to do the sills on the right hand side, if there is an 8 week wait and the panels are hand made I might just make the sills myself. I can't really afford £360 for the Porsche item!

The idea is to revive the S2 this year, and I will be starting a restoration thread in a few months as soon as I can get the S2 back down the workshop. I've collected most of the other parts needed for the restoration.

cheers

John

Just had the sills done on my 944 track/resto project.

I bought a driverside replacement sill from the above mentioned vendor, as i thought thats all i required.

When both sills and rear quarters were taken back to metal it was decided to completely replace both sides including rear quarter section, as there were several pin holes and metal was quite thin.

The supplied sill reqired quite a bit of reworking to make it fit correctly.

So much so my body guy advised against buying the other repair section and made them himself.

I have the car back and have the luxury of another 944 to compare the restoration work with. Which is to a high standard.

I also have the removed metal work which i will post pictures of once my car is finnished.

For me personaly i would not buy the copies again.
