944 specialist to check a car over?

Hi, could anybody recommend a specialist that could check over a car for me in Wantage, Oxfordshire? I'm based in Scotland and won't be able to check the car over personally. Thanks, Andrew.

Nearest Porsche independent is Northway, at Beenham. They are very knowledgeable on front engine cars and have looked after mine for the 11 years I've had it. Not sure if they do inspections...would be worth a phone call 0118 971 4333.

Got mine inspected by Peter Morgan...a comprehensive report. He's well known for independent inspections.

Second for Hillcrest, I'd imagine Northway would be moving away from the transaxle cars like many of the larger specialists so you wouldn't necessarily get the most experienced person looking at the car.

I'm not a massive fan of inspections. I had one on a car years ago, and it was all about the detail, not the important bits. I don't care about tyre tread depth or interior light bulbs, but do want to know if it's rusty, smokey or a write-off. Maybe an MOT and a once-over by a local enthusiast would be as useful?

Re Hillcrest.......the previous owner of my S.2 used them for a number of years and spoke highly of them. With the demise of Promax, I'll be likely using them in the future. Worth a call I reckon.

Northways still have plenty of 944 cars in for work. Would recommend over Hillcrest any day. They've been around longer and have more experience.

If it's not too late then you also have Retro Restorer in Banbury, Nash has been very helpful when I've dealt with him and did the welding/spray work on my 944

I live just down the road from Wantage. I'm not a qualified expert but am on my 4th 944 so know the obvious things to look out for before you commit to a paid for inspection. Personally I'd recommend Swindon Porsche (formerly Dick Lovett). They are a Porsche Classic dealer and will do a free limited inspection or a very detailed one for a small charge. I used to have Nash at Retro Restorer look after my Turbo but will not be returning after my last visit so not sure i would trust him anymore.
