944 Stainless Exhaust ??

I have an ' 83 944 (normally aspirated of course!) and I am looking for a Stainless Steel ' Sport' exhaust. I want it to be louder than standard, but still want it to look like the standard system - i.e. no daft twin tail pipes !

Does anyone know if anyone manufactures systems for the standard car ?? I know there are companies that produce bespoke ' one off' sort of systems (at lunatic prices) but I would have thought that there would have been a bit of pent up demand among 944 owners looking for the same sort of thing.

Any ideas/comments ?

Steve,

Try Essential Styling at www.essentialstyling.com they seem to be doing some reasonable systems.

If you are just looking for a bit more of an agressive growl why not consider an induction kit, this made a significant change on my Lux. See the favourite enhancements section of the 944 forum.

That' s ideally what I was looking for : a straight through, single silencer system. The primary silencer is easily removed on the 924 - and replaced with a straight piece of pipe. Can' t do this on the 944, however.

I want eveything to look standard though, so that definitely rules out the induction kit idea. Car is just used for concours so I couldn' t face a loss of marks for the ' odd' filter !

Steven,

Forgive me for being forward but, if the car is only used for concours, why do you want to change the exhaust for something non-standard?

Is it me, or am I missing something?[8|]

I would go along with Johns suggestion of Essential Styling. Talk to the owner Simon (who is on this forum) and I am sure he could accomodate you.

Hayward and Scott will make anything you want in Stainless Steel. They are very very high quality and the price reflects this.

Most of all the others will not look standard so would seem to cause you trouble at concours events [:(]

Does anybody know is essential styling are going to bring out a twin exit pipe for the 8v ?

Thanks, The rear box section runs to approx beneath the rear seats where the flange is to the rear of the catalytic convertor, but I also have the cat replacement section as well - that runs almost to the turbo and retains a front exhaust box. Janspeed developed the system and found no advantage to replacing the front box with a straight pipe and I wanted to keep the noise output sensible for trackdays and long journeys.
Windows down and sunroof open it sounds great though!
