944 Turbo Cabrio Registry

New member
Hello,

After 9 years owning one of these relatively scarce 944s, I've decided to start compiling a Registry of sorts that I hope to distribute to current owners as information on specific cars becomes available through ads on internet, private messages, or posts to this thread.

Reportedly, there were 628 Porsche 944 Turbo Cabriolets built. 100 of these were RHD versions.

The following information categories will be featured, but I am still open to suggestions on this.

1) VIN
2) Date manufactured (if you have it)
3) Market (e.g., originally built for GB market)
4) LHD/RHD
5) Exterior color and paint code.
6) Interior color and code.
7) Factory option codes.

Would be a nice addition if the owner is willing:

8) Current owner's name
9) Contact address, email and phone number.
10) Current miles/km on the car at date of registration.

Regards from Barcelona, and many thanks for your support.

Luis

Nice idea, I wish my Register was always up-to-date! What are the data-protection laws like over there? We have to be very careful about who has this sort of information, how they store and use it, levels of protection and security etc.

Hello,

I think they're even more strict than in the UK, but I figure if people provide the data voluntarily there should be no problem. I did this years ago when updating the 'S2 Gruppe' in the U.S

However, the production data is pretty much public information. It's just that nobody has it for all 600+ cars!

Thanks,

Luis

Paul,

For such an exercise in the UK, a stated declaration from the data owner or the information subject (or, more simply, the person who is giving their name and other details), saying that they are happy for the PCGB to hold the data in question for the purposes of running the XYZ register and that they are happy for it to be placed in an electronic information retrieval system, should suffice. Clearly you'd need to comply with the rest of DPA '98 (particularly schedules 2 and 3), but that's not terribly difficult.

6) Interior color and paint code.

The insides of turbo cabs were painted? Yikes!

Excellent idea Luis. It would be nice to have a website with a thumbnail pic of each car, it's rough location, mileage and how long the owner has had it. One day I WILL own one of those Turbo Cabs (even though we don't really have the weather for them over here [:(] )

A splendid aspiration but as long as it isn't raining get the hood down. A nice warm hat and gloves and the heater turned up is a great way to go for a blast on Christmas day.

Luis,
My friend Paul Ormond has a turbo cab....RH drive and it's located in Dublin. I'll get him to post his details...

Hi 422hp944,

He and I had corresponded in the past, but I never got the car's details from him.

It will be the first RHD car I add to the register, thanks!

Luis

Im confident that a private individual need not be concerned with the DPA. Theres so much b*ll*cks talked about it it is untrue.

Quick update. So far, I'm up to 16 cars but only 7 VIN numbers. I'm missing the VIN number for all the UK/IRE cars, including:

1) Paul Ormond's car.
2) A Cobalt Blue Metallic car with blue leather interior last seen registered as H78 FLE.
3) A Maritime Blue car with twists currently for sale (see http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-page.php/carno/82469).
4) An India Red car with black cloth interior recently sold by Shirleys Garage (see 2nd from bottom: http://www.shirleys-garage.co.uk/carsforsale.asp).

Thanks for any leads on these or additional cars!

NOTE: Item 3 link corrected. Thanks.

am travelling at present so dont have details to hand but you're welcome to mine when I am back. Its a guards red 91 model which I've owned for around 5 years and which belonged to a friend of mine for 3 years before that. 80,000 genuine miles and still a tremendous car to drive. It would be interetsing to know how many of these still exist.

3) A Maritime Blue car with twists currently for sale (see http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2077372940045055292lvjLBE).

Isn't that one cobalt?

It's funny, I was looking through an old 1998 Porsche Post on the day you first posted this topic and there was actually a maritime 944 Turbo Cab for sale in the back with maritime D90s sporting a polished rim. It looked pretty smart!

There were 2 (out of 16 944s in total) at the Porscheshop visit we had a few months ago - 1 red one from Scotland (Edingurgh?) and another I think blue/grey from Northants area.

Hi

I'm a bit bemused having checked out item 3) A Maritime Blue 944 Turbo cab which in the pics carries the reg H78 FLE which is supposed to be Cobolt Blue according to item 2?

Can anyone confirm what colour H78 FLE is as it looks the same colour as my S2 for which I don't have a paint code on the car to confirm - boot & bulkhead paint codes not present!

Thanks in anticipation

Tony

As I said, it's cobalt. Maritime is a lighter, non-metallic blue. See MarkK's thread on his track car to see maritime.

Hi Paul,

Since paint colour is a current topic could you tell me if the original factory colour can be found from Porsche using the vin code?

My paint codes data labels are missing so not sure what the official Porsche colour it is?

Having said that I know it's at least had a part respray if not a complete respray in which case it may not now be
the/a original Porsche colour?

I believe from the threads you're doing the Cotswold rally? If so perhaps you can advise me what colour I've got when you see the car as we are booked in?

Regards

Tony

Should be pretty straightforward. The paintcode is on the sticker inside the rear panel in the boot, next to spare wheel, or inside the service history leaflet.

Have you looked through the "colours" thread to find a match? Not perfect, as pictures can be deceptive, but a good start. [:)]
