944 turbo cup - unusual

Some of you may remember my post about a cetain Porsche 944 turbo cup value...

Has anyone had dealings with Porsche-AG where they block the release of history information on a particular car?

We tried to process a specification information check with PCarsGB with the usual cheque, and the enquiry was blocked by Porsche-AG, PcarsGB were even cunfused by this... (which was odd), even more strange my contacts in PorscheAG are not able to help.

I remember there was someone on here who had a well known 944 turbo cup and knew its history and was just wondering if there is a list of all the turbo cup cars made with any other details or resorces... its been confirmed that its a genuine turbo cup, but it seems a bit odd that this 85/86 cup car has Porsche AG closing doors to information?

Also, it would be nice to know if its possible to trace the history of registration of a french car (such as a list of previous owners etc)

Its not often that I ask for advice, so any help would be great.

Jon,

Best resource I've come accross for Turbo Cup is www.asarus.com

They have a register with chassis numbers too http://www.asarus.com/cup/recensement.shtml

It's all in French though.

Hope this is of some use.

Anders (from Sweden IIRC) on rennlist also owns a turbo cup and may be able to provide further info / advice.
Maybe Porsche AG want to buy it back cheap [;)]

As stupidly simple as it may sound, try e-mailing Porsche Motorsport. It is still possible to get specific parts and information by contacting them directly.

If it's an '86 it can't be a french car. Pre '87 are not homologated in France.

The only example of this I have come across recently was an ex factory 935 that had been written off whilst still a factory car. Somebody had subsequently got hold of the salvage in Germany and built a car proposing to be the same chassis number. The car now belongs to a belgian collector who tried to confirm its provenance. Porsche refused to give any information out to its new owner and would give no reason. It was only by the new owner digging through records he was able to find details of the cars previous demise. When asked if this was the circumstances behind refusing detail conirmation, the only answer he could get out of Porsche AG was "we do not supply details for vehicles that no longer exist"
This 944 Turbo Cup did not come from Switzerland by any chance and previously be the possession of a doctor??

Two Cup cars used to belong to Swiss doctors in the recent past, but they were '87 and '88, not '86.
The '87 was sold back to France, the '88 was destroyed last year during a hillclimb race.

The French trophy used to be a huge "mess" (confirmed vocally to me by three then official Cup mechanics) and I doubt the factory has kept trace of all cars used in the French trophy.

I nearly bought one off a swiss doctor, it had previously been the Porsche France guest car. It was not that pricy but work took me out of the country and I never got to view the car

The one we are working on was last registered in france, but we are trying to find out its history.

We would like to find out general information about it, where it was registered first, who brought it, who has had it since, if it ever raced and as a whole any information about its past.

Its the one on the asarus web site that was found by Jim Tarrant... but the previous owner is a bit senile, does not remember who he brought it from (apart from it was a garage in france somewhere) and was never interested enough to ask about its history when he brought it!... over the years he has also lost almost all the paperwork for it, apart from the export paperwork from france..

It does not look like it has ever raced, no evidence of racing decals, but it has had a bump in the past, which had destroyed the original front PU and rear bumper... It even has an original sticker in the rear window with the turbo-cup logo and a picture of 3 944 turbo's side by side as a graphic/logo.

Luckily, it seems to still be 100% original apart from the front PU and rear bumper... even down to the cage, seats, harnesses, etc etc. The chassis numbers also seem to be in the correct sequence with other confirmed turbo cup cars from 86

Its just odd that everyone at Porsche AG seems not to want to talk about it.... Even PcarsGB said it is the first time they have known of PorscheAG refusing point blank to talk about a particular chassis number, without even wanting to give them a reason why.

It is not possible to know the history of a french car out of his registration number if you don't work for the police - though a policeman I know told me even they now have to give a genuine reason to be able to check the files.

Try to contact Samuel Fournis. He got some history on a 928 CS that was supposed not to exist anymore and might be of help if asarus has not provided you with some info yet.

I do suspect the car you're talking about to have a rather dodgy history. the picture on the site shows late offset PD mags while an '86 should feature Fuchs wheels, as you may already know.
