Hi Chris, always nice to hear about a returning 944 owner. I bought my 220bhp turbo a few years ago and it's been superb since. Mine had just turned 100k miles when I bought it for £6800 which was a top whack at the time but i'd seen about six or so cars beforehand and the condition of it was much much better so I went for it. Given that there has been a bit of depreciation I would guess that top whack prices these days would be around £5,500 to £6,000 for something special. There are plenty of posts you can search on to understand what to look out for but a quick summary is:-

- when the timing belt was last done (replacement interval is 40k miles or four years)
- rusty sills (about £1k a side to sort out)
- rotten front wings at the bottom edge - this is common so i'd be surprised of this is free from rust at the bottom of the wings
- all the gadgets working e.g. A/C and electric windows (which will be slow)
- look out for a sticker inside the boot near the passenger side light under the carpet. If it isn't there it could have been in a rear end bump. Not necessarily a problem but just check out that a decent repair has been carried out.

Other than that it's all the usual 2nd hand car things to look out for.

Don't worry about it being a 220bhp car, granted the 250bhp cars have one or two things on them that are desirable if you plan to track the car (bigger front brakes and LSD) but for the road you wont miss them or the 30bhp.

Good luck!

cheers scott im havin a proper look on wednesday i will look at those things
cheers chris

It's not going to be a 220 car on an F-plate, it will be a 250 that would have had M030 and forged rims originally.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]On top of Scott's list the other biggies unique to the 944 are siezed brakes due to "plate lift", corroded fuel lines over the rear beam, cracked/sticky wastegate (it willbe weak) etc. You want to see it has been serviced every 6k miles with at the very least every 12k service done by someone who knows what they are doing (the interims are just oil & filter changes).[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]There's huge amounts of information on what to look for if you use search.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]In terms of value I think it would be worth low £7k with absolutely nothing wrong with it. Most 944s need up to £1,500 spending on them right away, so it's worth around £6k in all likelihood. If the sills are rusty it's only good for breaking as you will get a solid one for less than the cost of a rough one plus a decent repair.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]
