A mate of mine has begrudgingly decided to sell his 944 Turbo to fund his rally car project. If you're interested please give him a call...

Porsche 944 Turbo (250bhp), 1987, D, Black with Tan full leather interior, 115000 miles, 17 inch turbo cup alloys with new tyres, lots of history, just had major service inc new belts and rollers, electric sunroof and seats, CD player, six months MOT and tax, Private plate not inc, been standing for six months, hence £4500ono
Interested? Contact Jim on 07968 906570

Cheers.

I seemed to think they came out in late '87 (i.e. November) from what I remember when I was shopping around for mine but I can't think for the life of me where I read or heard that from. I'll double check with Jim and confirm for those who are interested.

Cheers.

John's right, they Silver Rose came out in '88 (so possibly from September '87 build) but if it was an early one of them it would be silver rose colour with burgundy studio check and wouldn't have had a sunroof (which I think I can see in the pic?)

Yep, the 250s started from Aug 87 so the earliest they will be is an E plate

Makes no difference really as you'd soon whip out that KKK Turbo and put a hybrid monster in for 350 [:D]

Good point on the reg.

Not quite Paul as a 220 doesn't necessarily have an LSD and it will mean the buyer needs to go through the hassle Mr Sims has had to get "reasonably big blacks" fitted [:D]

Yes, big pain - I wouldn't wish that on anybody. If it is an '87 model it will, at least, have ABS as standard, it was an option only prior to that.

Just checked back with the seller. It's definately a 250bhp. Aparently you can take your VIN number to any Porsche dealer and they will look it up on their database and provide you with the full spec of the car when it was new. He's done this and it came up with 250bhp.

Maybe they were 250 bhp from Aug '87 i.e. D reg since mine is a July '87 'E' and 220bhp??

There are a number of ways of telling if it is 220 or 250. One of the easiest is to look under the bonnet at the inlet manifold.

Look between runners 3 & 4. If there are 2 vacuum ports, it is a 250 as the picture HERE. If there's only one port it's a 220 BHP.

HTH

Nice to see those 2 vac. ports on mine, thought it was quick.

How do I get to see the engine numbers?

I'm interested in purchasing a 944 Turbo (250 BHP)as a track day car and was wondering if this car would have ABS ??
Any other tips as to what I should be looking for .........

Cheers

If it's a 250bhp car (which I have to say I still very much doubt if it's a D plate) then it should have ABS and an LSD. If it's a 220 car (possibly with a 250 car's engine?) then it will probably have ABS as it's a late one and it might have an LSD as an option. Looking at the picture I'd say the wheel offset is that of an ABS generation car but it could still not have ABS.

Use the search and there are a few threads about what to look out for when buying a 944.

It's now sold. 1st guy who saw it snapped it up!.

It's definately a 250bhp according to the Porshe database, it had ABS and LSD from new but a previous owner replaced the gearbox with a non-LSD one. He's not sure of the early history so it very well may have been an early domonstrator example or something like that. It is a December '87 though so it could be an early '88 spec as they were being phased in.

Sorry to have caused a commotion!

December 87 should have been an E Reg, which confirms all our posturing about a 1987 MY

Maybe the D Reg was put on as a vanity plate. It's nice to hear it sold so quickly, must have been a good one (or very cheap [;)] )
