944 turbo-front wings

Hi all, I am going to have my 1990 turbo resprayed but have noticed that the bottoms of both wings are corroded. I require a pair in good condition to replace them. I believe s2 ones will also fit. I have tried Douglass Valley's and Porscheshop (Too expensive new).

Looking at the sticker inside the boot mine has the numbers 952, i am confused as I thought late turbo's were 951. Forgive my ignorance, but please let me know what this means.
Thanks

952 is the option code for right hand drive.

Your best off hunting round the breakers for wings, you will find some eventually at a good price.

The bottom of the wings are susceptable to corrostion as they are so exposed so you might struggle to find some from a breakers that are not also suffering from corrosion in that area. Another option is find a good bodyshop who will cut off the bottom 6 inches or so of your wing and make a new bottom section and weld on. It sounds expensive but is pretty cost effective compared with the cost of replacing a wing plus the cost of the wing in the first place. I got quotes of around - £500 for both wings including the painting and full body machine polish. It's a job that's on my to do list once i've finished tinkering.

Any update on the potential front wings group buy talked about not long ago ?

What about prevention? Mine also has a bit of rust. What about putting stuff behind the wing to prevent rust?

All our 944s are getting on a bit so does any-one have any rust prevention stuff to paint on to reduce corrosion?

Kul

To look at my wings from the side, there is no obvious corrosion but the flange that the plastic trim fastens onto has gone.I hadn't noticed till the MOT tester pointed it out.
I know a good pannel beater but I could do with a photo showing what the bottom should look like, before asking him to fabricate new bottoms.
Wish i'd striped the s2 that was recently in my local breakers yard [:(]

what i have done is to remove the black trim from the bottom of the wing, and removed the wheel arch liners - you'll be surprised at how much dirt and mud is behind the wing at the bottom and it is this that is causing the rust. I have applied lots of underseal behind the wing to stop water penetrating through

I have recently tried lots of breakers for turbo/s2 wings and they are hard to find. They will also be of an age where they will have also started to go at the bottom so will be a false economy.

I was thinking along these line but what about cutting the bottoms of some standard lux wings as these are easier to get hold of and dont seem to rust as much at the bottom, probably because they dont have the little black trims to collect dirt .

But you wouldn't be able to re-attach the black trims as you wouldn't have the lugs on the inside of the wing - or is that you're plan?? If so remember that the jacking points at the middle and rear of the sill are longer on the S2's and Turbo's because of the black trim, so if you remove the trim these points will protrude a way below the line of the sill and will just look daft.

A few year back i fitted an S2 front on my old 83 lux,i couldnt get any wings so i had the fronts reshaped and i also put black side skirt trims on and they went straighton the early wings but i cant remember how .

I'm also in the process of re-painting my car. I've had rust issues also at the bottom of the wings, it's those black sill trims thats causing it, I'm not putting them back on, my brother in-law has my old 83 lux and the wings are perfect corrosion free...it's those nasty sill trims guys!
