944 turbo fuel filter ?

Anyone here changed one themselves ? Got set to change mine today but with the gearbox oil cooler close by I couldn't get a clear pull on the 17mm union to free it off. Maybe a crows foot spanner would work, or I'll just let someone with a lift do it.

I don't remember a problem, well apart from fuel trickling down my arm....

Can be v tight though

Almost impossible to get the union on the gearbox side. What was the access like from underneath.

Don't recall it being that bad - was some time ago though, probably 8 or 9 years since I did a fuel filter on a turbo. Easy enough on an n/a though.

nope - the only service item I've ever noticed making a difference is new plugs - they always make the car run better.

It never hurts to replace the fuel filter, I did from underneath when I still had the original oil cooler and I don't remember it being a problem. Turbo plugs are cheap as chips and I have recently gone from iridium back to standard and noticed an improvement.

Swapped mine in my 964 last year and it made a big difference as it was quite badly gunged up.

I couldn't loosen the thing until I applied penetrating oil and used the correct spanner at which point it released quite easily.

When you say it made a big difference, in what way ?

I found the motivation to change the fuel filter today, even from underneath it was still a PITA. I reckon it may have been the original Porsche part, those unions were tight. Couldn't shift them without using my shiny new crows foot spanners.

They are awkward on the turbo, just fitted new plugs to my car, Bosch WRD 6 which is a cooler running plug, car feels great.
