944 Turbo Gearbox

Hi everyone,

I have a 1992 turbo cabriolet (J reg) with just over 200,000 miles. Recently it started jumping out of second and there was a nasty smell of gearbox oil. Also could not engage first. Local garage says gearbox is shot. Does anyone have any good leads on a reconditioned/secondhand one, please? Porsche are quoting scary prices!!

Any help appreciated...

Steve

Hi Steve,

I got a s/h S2 box from Porsch-Apart and I've been very happy with it. They are a breakers but appear much more professional and trustworthy than perhaps Douglas Valley or Prestige Salvage. You do pay extra though. Give them a call. 01706-824053.

Jon Mitchell might be a good place to start:

I was actually going to recommend Prestige Salvage as I've had a few parts from them and they're always been spot on and resonably priced

Prestige arent bad, theyre just old school. FAR better than DVB of course, but who isnt?

Hi Steve

I changed my gearbox on my 2.5 Lux a couple of weeks ago - got mine from Paul at PH Sportscars.

Guys do know the cars, are very reasonable and are Shardlow a mile from the A50 near Derby.

+1 for Paul (especially if it was 1994! [:D])
