944 Turbo has two water thermostats.

Had a call from my man yesterday to say he was replacing " both" thermostats as water was flowing through the rad. from cold start up.

" Both thermostats" I said " I thought there was only one, in the inlet to the water pump" .

" No there is another" he said " it controls the water flow to the turbo (water cooled), when one goes the other one tends to go too.

Could this be the reason there is so much confusion over the correct temp. for a 944 Turbo and why some report no change after changing the ' stat in the water pump.

Note, this only applies to Turbos.

Will report back after I have picked the car up tomorrow morning.

We were all waiting for your report back.

There are 2 thermostats listed on the water pump parts diagrams for the turbo. It looks like this could be part of the water feed to cool the turbo.

There is an additional thermostat for the oil pump.

Please enlighten us as to the full function.

Thanks Sean, I feel better now[&:]

What you say is correct, but I was never aware of it and I' m not sure others are.

I have heard quite a few people having warming up problems having the theromstat replaced and still having problems. I suspect it might be because the little turbo stat. does not get replaced.

My saga is a bit of a saga.

Took the car in tuesday night for an oil and filter and the thermostat. Planning to pick up Thursday morning.

Got a call wednesday afternoon, " the main thermostat won' t come out, will have to take the water pump off, an extra 4 hours" . I discussed all the options and they had tried all the options so I agreed for the extra. Then I realised that to take the water pump off they have to remove the belts.

Although the belts have only done 18K they were done 4 years ago so I went for that too.

Expensive oil change[&o]

Mine was also in for service yesterday.

Only unscheduled thing was the short flexible hose from the clutch master was going porus. The most expensive short bit of hose I have ever come across.

I had that hose done last year as well Sean [] It really speeds up the gear changes afterwards - worth half a second a lap, well worth the money <<<< sarcasm alert

Thanks for the info on the extra stat Robbie, something esle for me to worry about [8|]
