944 Turbo Hoses

Hmmm ... This is the probably the stealthiest airbox/AFM assembly I've ever seen...

Have you noticed any improvement with this intercooler?

Check with the vacuum diagrams on the LR site : http://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Parts/VACDIA.html

Yeah airbox is made of glass :D. Not had the car running with the intercooler yet. I think any likely changes will be with the cycling valve hoses. I dont think any of those diagrams show it with a cycling valve for comparison do they?

Well, I can see a cycling valve in the first diagram. Not sure why you would want to keep it in the air line if your car is chipped though?

I don't but the maker of the hoses would like a complete set for the standard car and not just my modified car.

Tom, all the original hoses should be there. I didn't remove anything when I installed the level 2 kit. Only the hose from the IC bango bolt to the cycling valve was cut with one end going to the MBC and the other end being sealed up with a bolt and jubilee clip (you can see in the photo). The car was 100% and completely stock and unfettled with before I got my greasy mits on her!

I didn't bother removing the cycling valve because I wanted the mods to be reversible, but what Thom (TTM) says is right - you may as well ditch it.

Another job you might consider is the deletion of the vapour purge system. This involves the removal of all the associated hoses and components including the charcole cylinder in the offside wing and fitting a fuel tank breather. For some reason Porsche produced cars between certain years without a vapour purge system at all so it appears to serve a function that can be done without. It is quite a common mod in the states. The benefits are reduction of clutter in the engine bay and removal of boost leak opportunities.

Looking good Tom, looks like you are lavishing alot of TLC on her. Is that a nice new water pump gasket I can see? what have you done so far? timing belt, rollers, tension and water pump?

Scott is there a procedure for this? Or do you know anyone who has done it? I am very interested in simplifying my vacuum and boost lines as much as possible for the exact reasons you say.

I didn't touch the water pump in the end the bearings seemed in good condition when I tested them and the price of a new one put me off replacing it just in case. The list so far is:

all the engine seals
new belts
shot blasted and repainted ARB's and driveshafts
new drive shaft boots and cleaned and re-greased cv joints
replaced the water and air hoses with the silicone ones
modified intercooler

Left to do is the fuel filter put the badge panel back on torque up driveshaft bolts and put the ARB's back on. Also got a load of dinitrol to give it a good rust proofing when its nice and dry. Prob get the bonnet resprayed too. Then she will get a good run next week down to dover and back. With working in Dover is been off the road from about 2 weeks after I picked it up :p. Need to put new tyres on the front too actully, forgot about that, good thing I wrote this post.

I'll look into the removal of the vapour purge system. Is it a crank case breather system?

Car is back on the road now. First impressions of the new intercooler are good, especially for £80. Need to get it on the dyno and see if its just placebo. Certaily seems like the turbo comes in differently, seems more linear in how it spools.
