944 Turbo on "5th Gear"

I appreciate that most of the country can't get receive Channel 5, [:mad:] but earlier tonight Tiff Needell was singing the praises of the 944 Turbo on "5th Gear".
He drove a Baltic Blue, I think, H-plate and was getting all dewey-eyed over the "blistering performance" and "delicate handling poise" of the car, as he himself apparently owned one in the late 80's.
Great to see the car getting a glowing report, even after all these years. What a machine - But then I guess we already knew that!! [;)]
 
I've been a bit dissapointed with 5th Gear over the past few weeks but tonight was a great programme. I still hate the adds in the middle though.

It was nice to see Tiff treating someones obvious pride and joy with respect. None of this "thrashing it within an inch of its life" prevalent on BBC.
 
I agree, John.
Whilst there is, doubtless, huge entertainment value in seeing mega power slides and doughnuts etc, it isn't exactly representative of how the cars handle on the road.
Or am I just being a boring old fart?? [8|]

I have no problem with, and greatly enjoy, see manufacturers press cars spun, slid, doughnutted and thrashed - representative of real use or not. It's nice to imagine you could be the one in the drivers seat. I do get very upset, however, when I see privately owned vehicles being abused.

If a car belongs to a person, then the only person who should be thrashing it is the owner - as far as I'm concerned. Think back to last series of Top Gear, Mr Clarkson wasn't best pleased when old Stig "borrowed" his car.
 
So long as they pay me enough to cover the tyres in the fee and they warm up and cool down properly they can thrash any of my cars on TG - provided I get a go round their track in it a few times too...
 
It amazes me (but I guess it shouldn't [:D] ) how many previous owners - who often now own much more 'exotic' vehicles - come up and say the 944 Turbo was the best car they ever owned and they wish thay hadn't sold it. I must admit I don't know what I would replace mine with even If I had another 20K to spend.

I did chuckle though, for if you remember Fifth Gear contacted the club and asked for a late 80's 944 T to be on their 'best of the 80's spectacular. We all quivered at the thought of Tiff thrashing our car and trashing the gearbox or tyres. A second request was made a few weeks later and still no-one came forward. Then if you notice on the Telly it was an 'H' Reg 1991 car that they used in the 80's spectacular [:D] I guess they couldn't pick and choose.

That car was nearly identical to mine and it was nice to see Tiff driving it sedately, and makes me realise what a wuss I was not to volunteer [&:]
 
Can you imagin if Tiff tore the arse off your car!, then the Stig power slided it all over the track! I would cry! I loved the shot of the instament dials powering up like an air plain cock pit. Great car!
