944 turbo Vs 928

Ive been looking for a decent 944 turbo for sometime. I used to own a 250bhp Turbo se about 10 years ago. It was written off just as i got it to a good state. With the insurance i bought a 968 sport. Fantastic car, but i always missed the brutality of the turbo. Unfortunatly the 968 was written off a couple of years after and i decided to get the icon a impact bumper 911.
This car was fantastic - but as a drivers car really disapointing after the 968 and especially the 944 turbo.

944 turbos are now silly money. £5k-7k buys a good starting point.

Now my question. Ive seen 928s advertised for about £5k for a good looking car. How will these compare to say, my 944 turbo?
Will it fit in my garage? The 944 was tight.
Whats the fuel economy like?
Does the v8 give the bang of power like my 944 turbo did?

Just to give you an idea, this is the car i was looking at today....http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C84701/

Hi!
Can't resist replying to this one, as I have both a 1987 220bhp 944 turbo and a 1987 928 S4, manual. They are a very diferent drive, the 928 feeling a bit 'loose' at times, I suspect the result of the pliant rear suspension mountings, but could also have been the cheapish tyres fitted to the rear when I bought it (seventh hand for about £6000). On long journeys the car is well planted and feels rock solid on autoroutes, giving about 25 mpg on long runs. The whole drive is more relaxed, with torque being the dominant feature of the engine, but once rolling, the car picks up speed at an astonishing rate for such a heavy car and renders overtaking easy. The power steering has plenty of feel, but again feels relaxed in comparison to the Turbo. The latter is more 'agile' and feels more of a sports car, definately 'lighter on its feet'. Just don't get a 928 if all you want is a car for short hops to wherever, it just isn't made to do that. But if you want to drive to somewhere distant with your wife/girlfriend and commensurate luggage, it is the best car, a true GT.

Thats very interesting - I keep dallying with the idea of changing my 951 for a 928 and also keeping the turbo and getting a 928 to go with it...... if only I could be confident enough that I could afford to maintain them both properly [&:]
