944 turbo wastegate

Hi all

Anyone have a wastegate surplus to requirements they’d consider selling?

If not-any recommendations to source one? I’ve seen someone selling something called a Turbosmart wastegate. Maybe a Tial one is the way to go. Thinking at this point it could be an opportunity to upgrade to something better and more modern.

Many thanks

Pete

Depends how much you want to spend. A Tial will require adapters to fit, something like a Lindsey converted standard WG will bolt straight on. I've found Lindseys UK customer service to very poor recently though. Your best bet is probably to search, these kind of questions have been many times asked in the past.

I sold my spare one a while back, if you just want a standard one, James @ Only Nine has a couple listed on ebay for £75

You can budget for about £500/£600 for a Tial plus adapters. A Lindsay one around $500 but they need a non-cracked standard one sent to them I think:

I've got a Lindsay one and any dual port wastegate is a great upgrade, the standard single port item somewhat stunts performance and some say Porsche did this deliberately so the 944 wasn't quicker than the flagship 911 of the day. Add a chipset to your DP wastegate and you'll gain 50/60HP over stock.

Many thanks- appreciate your thoughts on this - I’ll have a good search. Interesting re the Lindsey ones, that might be less hassle.

Hello Pete
I had Augment fit their full ecu and wastegate package to my 1991 944 turbo with around 96,000 miles several years ago. I kept the original wastegate as it was okay (I had some spare funds and wanted to try a little more power) and photos should appear below. Just one of the eight studs broke. I haven’t touched it since but whilst taking photos of it tonight, I put so6B338B2C-DCB3-4455-85B4-CAF7E17FC4BE.jpegE2E3E127-0531-4972-9B35-A609677B0742.jpegme spray release on it. PM me if you’re still interested.
Regards
Bill

Tial is all new whereas a Lindsey is a re-worked original, but if you want more power then a dual port is the way to go, It will need more than just the wastegate though and it is the top of a slippery slope!

It must be 16 or 17 years ago now that I signed up on here. Back then it seemed every other week some new poster was asking what chips would give 400 or 500 bhp.

Nah...waste of time for a reliable road car that still feels like a 951...:)

Only if you’re stuck firmly in the 90’s - 3.0 16v Turbo is the very best iteration of any 944 I’ve experienced.

The engine combo addresses so many issues that hamstrung the 8v 2.5 in the Porsche range at the time.

Back in the days when you could buy a leggy 968 Coupe for £5k really I fancied building a 968 turbo. But it seemed a certain breaker always beat me to the cheap ones.

All I'll say is that there's nothing hamstrung about my build and when talking 968 turbo, Porsche made it 8v even though they had plenty of experience with the earlier 16v 924 GTP. nuf said...🙃

I do like my set-up, a good reliable 300bhp, nothing getting over-stretched. Modding a standard 944T with what could be called a Stage 1 tune, DPW, chips, 18psi etc. gives you a proper fast 80's car and should have been the way it left the factory had it not been for the built in "restrictions" to save face on the beetles of the day.

I am still able to keep up, or better, with most modern stuff which is good enough for me!

That said, I do want a spin in your 3.0 16v beast at some point David 😛
