944 Turbo

Porsche call them parking lights. The two rectangular clear lights below your pop-up main headlights. If I remember correctly, the outer bulbs in there are your parking lights whilst the inner bulbs are your fog lights.

Whether the main headlights pop up or not depends on the year of manufacture. Over certain years a European ruling insisted that they did have to pop up.

Could anyone with a 944 Turbo please tell me what happens when you switch on your sidelights only? I.e one click of the switch. The main lights should not pop up and the rear tail lights will illuminate BUT what happens at the front?

I raised this in my other thread and whilst I got helpful replies about the headlights no-one actually answered my question about the front sidelights! A picture of the front of a turbo with sidelights on will answer my question.

Many thanks

As stated above the light setup was changed for later cars...the 86 you can switch on the side and fog lights alone without the headlights being in their up position. In my handbook the foglights are also referred to as 'additional headlights'....comes in handy when arguing with the boys in blue why you have them switched on which i used to do a lot and not use the headlights as much unless in very bad weather. Now that I have fitted LED's i no longer need to use the fog lights at all as the side lights are very bright and do the job for me, I now use the sidelights at all times during the day for etc safety.

The British government insisted on 'dim dips' for 1987 and 1988 cars. This required the headlamps to raise on a 944. By the time that 1989 model year production had started the EU had shown the British government exactly who was now in charge, and forced them to drop the requirement.
