944 wheels?

Hi Folks
This may seem a stupid question to some of you BUT here goes..

Whats the difference between the design 90,s as fitted to standard S2,s + the lightweight "mag" wheels fitted to the TurboS,s apart from the weight????????????
Are they wider?
Are the et,s different?
ETC ETC ETC.....

Dave,

I assume you mean the forged wheels from the Silver Rose. There were also magnesium Turbo wheels for the Cup race series but I thingk they were Teledials.

The forged wheels are actually completely different to the D90's. The design is superficially similar but when you look closely the forged wheels have a flat face with spokes that curve out to meet the rim, the D90's have an inward curve and a step to the rim. The forged ones are also much thinner and have a different finish - anodised rather than painted like the (cast) D90's. Finally the forged wheels come in 8.5" (I think) and 7.5" whereas S2 D90's were 8" and 7.5". Note also that the last Turbos from MY 91 had D90's but in 9" & 8" and finally that there are also 6" D90's that were fitted to the front on 964's.

Ooops, yep I was talking bollox.

S2 should be 7" & 8", Turbo D90's should be 7.5" & 9" as you say (I did know that - I even got the S2 sizes right in the other thread [8|]) I also thought the forged wheels were half an inch smaller than the Turbo D90's but I thought it was the at back rather than the front, I am quite prepared to believe it's the other way round as you say and it seems likely I'd be wrong as I got everything else wrong in my last post...

Thanks for the info fellas

On the Forged rims are the sizes + offsets marked either side of the valve stem, as on a set of cup1,s + 2,s 17"?

I don't think so, but the only time I had a set I dodn't pay much attention (because I didn't realise what they were at the time [&o]).

This is a great page for those of us sad Porsche anoraks that like to know which wheels are which.

My 996/Boxster wheels are looking a bit sad now and could do with a refurb. It's a bit scary but I find myself drawn to chrome or perhaps black chrome. I'll need another set of Rick's Porsche rim stickers if thats the case.

I'm picking up my Cup 1's tonight. I assume they need a bit of TLC and I'm torn between lacquered anthracite or matt black, definitely not chrome, though.

I thought they were valuable but I didn't think they were worth that much.

Simple answer is there not!!!!!

You can get better lighter modern wheels for less money.

Does anybody know (or have pictures) of Design 90's in any other colour than silver/alloy?

I picked up an old set of Design 90's for track days and apart from needing a little bit of TLC (one of the fronts has a sizeable kurb dent) I am tempted to shot blast and then get powder coated at a friends work. Colour options are wide and I am currently thinking black to complement the pearl black paintwork?

These wheels will only see track use I hasten to add!

I've got a set of D90 that are being blasted and powder coated white at the moment. They were on Turbot before I transferred them to my 944S. I'll post some pictures when they're done.
