944s '88 Oval dash: Encapsulated (attached trim) + Green strip and aerial.

Hi, I would like if you've been there already, as I'm getting mine replaced its out due to de-laminating and getting a better finish on a complete re-spray too

I've heard some issues with build quality on OEM's being provided/supplied and hence in fitting them, I may be wrong but heard the best to fit is a Pilkington screen and fitters
love doing these.

Current ball parks is supply only £320 +VAT and intalled Budget Screen quoting £420 + VAT fitted but glass supplied unknown.

So with that as said anyone could advise will be brilliant before I take the plunge, or can recommend anyone/company with a known track record.

Ho yes, I can't go down the Insurance route as the vehicle lay'ed up with no glass in it!!

Area: High Wycombe, Bucks.

Many Thanks in advance.

John

I bought a secondhand screen off e-bay and had it fitted by a local fitter ( I had to cut out the old screen as it was cracked and I was painting the car). All was well until I dropped a ratchet on it and cracked it. Then went to insurance and got a new one fitted by national windscreens, they did a fantastic job.

I had a nightmare with my screen.. in 2002 in fact ...I got a good price from these lads in Belfast who came to our place to fit the screen. They bonded in the screen but didnt fit the trim with the result that air was blowing in over the dash. I complained and was told to drive the car to Belfast. That was an easy run with towels all over the dash to stop the air.. Cold as well[]

When I got to Belfast the lads duly broke the screen while attempting to take it out. They had no replacement so I was sent home with a broken screen and still air coming in ... 90 Miles !

I wasnt best pleased to say the least. The boss of the company rang me up and apologised left right and centre and arranged a transporter to take my car to Agnew's OPC. They discovered that the paint was damaged around the screen so they repaired that as well as fitting a brand spanking new screen.

Morale of the story - Make sure that the fitter knows what hes at and keep an eye on him to make sure he dosent do anything that will cause you grief. That was a big lesson learned for me - I'll either do it myself or I'll get a proper person to do it !

Had mine fitted at my local Porsche centre (Kendal) a few month ago , new genuine top tint screen, absolutely no problems, leaks or squeaks.

The fitters reckon all the non genuine screens are the problem ones, the fitters were not OPC staff but fitted at Porsche premises.

Cheers.

Oh what a pain in the ar*e...you can see why I'm asking the question.

Hopefully, I can go down the right path with previous experiences from members, so hopefully I can get a recommendation and have a hassle free install

Thanks Paul...I may be wrong the thought of a Porsche installation will be top dollar but I may be prejudging the Porsche Dealership charges..... it may well be in the range of currently quoted by fitters and hopefully not double, could you indicate a price or PM otherwise ?

JT

I have a feeling the fitters charged either £80 or £120, can't be sure without looking at the invoice, I think it's basically the price any screen fitter would charge, no different to any other car and possibly a lot easier than some modern stuff.

Cheers, Paul

My new new screen is gen top tint with ariel. Fitters did a great job, but i had to show them how to do it.

Well, looks like the current range I'm finding out too, my main concern is the glass supplied for the cost here. So I'm considering getting quality OEM glass and a decent fitter to do the job....well thats my plan but still open to offers and advice.

Presently, the car is back from the paint shop with a larger hole at the front.
