seasons greetings to all,
My 83 944 lux has always had electrical gremlins, possibly on account of being laid up for 5 years before i got it with more water leaks than a sieve!
I bought the car for the princely sum of £450 from a chap at work. Seemed like a good idea for some cheap fun. Ha!
The paintwork was terrible, the interior was mouldy, the boot wouldn't stay open but when it was shut it wouldn't stay secured and flew open, the onside front caliper was seized, all the seals were shot, the electric windows didn't work. But it did run!
I changed all the seals including both sunroof seals and cleared the drain holes and eventually stopped the leaks. The next job was to get the belts done, after reading the forum it seemed a very urgent job to do!
I then changed the caliper, fixed the electric windows and got the car mot'd. Driving it properly for the first time afterwards was awesome! i realise that to some a £450 lux could not possibly be awesome, but as my first Porsche experience and after years of Capris it really was awesome.
I enjoyed the car for the total of three weeks before the main fuseboard went bang........ I had a nearly new spare so i set about changing the whole lot over, and stripped out the interior while i was at it. This took an absolute age as the seats were rusted solid to the runners.
Amazingly, everything worked! I had a fabulous summer driving the Porsche, which i had managed to get to a quite shiny finish after two days of polishing.
Sadly, next mot it failed, pretty minor but including the rear fog lights which stopped working at the garage. Bugger.
The next day she refused to start. I made sure she had fuel, and changed the dme but still nothing. I suspect the fuel pump. While i had the fuseboard down after changing the dme i had a look at the wiring for thhe rear fog light. Oh dear.
The wiring is all looking well past its best now, the years of water leaks have taken their toll so i have decided to change the main loom, from the fuseboard to the ignition, and from front to back. I know, I know, i could have bought a nicer car in the first place and i am sure someone will feel the need to point his out, but i felt sorry for the poor girl, and after driving her i was besotted. I hate the idea of cars being scrapped just because they are old, and the are truly drivers cars.
Anyway, finally to the point! does anyone know where i can get a good quality secondhand loom, or if there is anyone who makes new ones?
Any help is much appreciated, keep up the excellent forum!
Best wishes
