944s cam chain change

Hi,

Do you really need to change the chain between the 2 cams? My 944s has done 118,000 but I notice that the cam chain change does appear in the service schedule. My local dealer says that they are only a problem on 968 but im not sure.

Any help would be cool

Regards

Pete

We've just changed mine on the 'S'. Can't remember the exact milage at the moment, probably abour 121,000.

The tensioner was changed HERE at 117,000 miles

Neither apear on the standard schedules. Since a damaged head or cams on the 16v versions can be VERY expensive, I'd recommend it !

Hi,

Thanks I will get it done then 1 other thing my hall sensor has become melted so I cannot work out which way round it plugs together will I notice a change in engine running if its round the wrong way. Thought I would ask as I can see it in the pics you have just left of the distributer

Thanks

Pete

Possibly. The phase of the hall sensor would be inverted. I'm not sure how the DME would handle that .... and I've not got the diagrams nearby at the moment...

I'll take a specific picture and look at the connector tomorrow ...
