944S, clutch pedal unknown cable and switch at top??

Hi all

Removed the Oval dash as its in poor condition so its a perfect time to remove all the loose cables the 944 has acquired over the years, assorted incar kits and alarms.

Yep the car still runs and hasn't gone up in smoke either :)

I've come across 2 things:

1) why is there a switch at the top of the clutch pedal presently to a single grey cable going no-where, its slide to earth type switch similar operation to a courtesy light switch. The cars a manual so I don't know, so is it something to do with the low clutch fluid indicator or something retro fitted for the Alarm as it did have a Clifford Alarm circa late 1980's perhaps for starting??

2) Why is there a long black rubber hose around pencil diameter in behind the dash the end is poked in the top middle air vent that blow onto the windscreen. the route the hose takes (viewed inside the car) above glove box, goes through bulkhead, past battery and is attached to the exhaust fitting on manifold?? the end that is in the dash is plugged with a brass plug, so I don't know if its a vacuum feed for heater Flaps ...perhaps?

Looking forward to any suggestions or answers

1, The switch would have been fitted for cruise control if it was an option, this cancels the cruise control function when the clutch is pressed to avoid over revving.

2, Yes the heater flaps are controlled by vaccum pressure.

I'll look for where the hose fits back onto, my concern is why it was removed in the first place! the person who done this took their time to conceal it and plug the end too, possible the guy who installed the alarm used the hose to pull the alarm cable through the dash as quite a few cables were taped to the rubber hose! otherwise a bit of investigation why.

Its a good call as I had noticed when the car when it was a runner the "heat" control knob if moved a degree the temperature inside the car was either on or off and nothing in between and not a gradual increase from cold to hot.

Cruise...I'll tuck the cable out of the way, surprised Porsche used this method as the connector/switch has suffered corrosion over the years in this location and would give poor and reliable indication the clutch has been depressed.

Again thanks just to finish tidying up and put it all back now...I have a spare black dash no sun damage except for a slot cut in bottom right (below fog switches) for a 1980's dongle for alarm is would be an easy fix, so if any ones interested PM me or its a Eb@y job.

Just looked for the possible location for this hose to connect too...nothing obvious, from inside the car the vacuum hoses for the heater control appear to be on the RHS (drivers side left knee), they are smaller diameter black rubber hoses and go through the bulkhead to blower motor between wiper blades. I've taken some pictures of this hose, the way its poked and routed through the bulkhead (battery side) dosn't look like a Porsche routing???

Also, for those interested the assorted cables removed...not for the faint hearted I say!
 
All that cable removed included in car phone kits + alarm power amps circa 1980's, ends made safe and soldered and heat sleeved too......................yes it still runs :)
 
Thats an odd hose too small for the heater sensor hose and goes to the wrong place but too large for a vac hose. I wonder if it could hav had cruise originally (or added later) and removed?

Possibly, re "cruise control" it does have a switch on top of the clutch pedal with a cable going nowhere now, this little finger sized black diameter hose pictured along with a retro fitted multiway cable + connector was taped to this hose too it had been deliberately route to the space in the middle vent and a hole drilled through the dash behind the centre air vents (the vents with the speedo reset). Its just a real pain working out whats standard and then removing the after market cabling to make things electrically safe, then replace the missing, worse still ensuring everything works afterwards!

Im not familiar with cruise control, does it need a supply of vacuum for the control unit to operate in one was fitted.

Not familiar with them either!

May be able to get some ideas from our American cousins on FB - will ask on there.
 
Please...My plan is to get her running (like all good plans if it works out) for the St Georges Day drive, with a bit of luck I may be able to have a look on a 944 16v for ideas, my worry is putting back the dash and this cable is fitted somewhere behind the dash, I couldn't face removing it all again and losing more skin off my knuckles, I know Paul Mc lives near me perhaps he may be able to let me have a look on his.
