944s driving light (1987)

Hi,

Has anyone ever changed a driving light bulb on a 944s L/H ? (The lamp in the bumper next to the indicator) I have got under the car but it looks like you have to remove everything to get to the back of the light. The haynes manual I was given for the car is rubbish as it does not cover the 944s no wonder he gave it to me!! Can such a simple task be such a headache?

Cheers

Pete

From Memory same as the 924 - two screws to take the front surround off then four screws to take the front of the unit off - But be warned they rust solid!

The Drivers handbook - which can be obtained - sorry can't remember where - has rather more information on the subject - sure some others will leap in to help.
try http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=106162 for manuals

Hope that may help

Drivers handbook can still be ordered through an OPC - or it could a few years ago when I last needed one.

Hi,

When you say front surround do you mean the bumper ? I realise this is a stupid question but I cannot locate the screws you mean by reading what you are saying means I can do it from the front of the car without jacking it up and getting underneath ? The back of the lamp has 2 screws in it but I cannot get to them without stripping out loads of other bits.

Sorry to be a pain

Cheers

IIRC you have t remove the bumber rubber square screw on the side then the frame can be unscrewed revelaing the screws that hold on the lens but IT is over 4 years since I did it. If someone has a handbook for the lux they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Yes I could see the picture of the rubber bung being reoved in my handbook, but as I don't have a Lux I never really understood it. If no-one else posts today, I'll try and scan it in tonight

Tony I could kiss you !!! well maybe not [:)] you were spot on and yes the screws do rust big time judging by the broken 1 but the other 2 came out no probs, all I need to do now is sort out the central locking looks like the passenger door not operating

Thanks again

I might be able to help you here because both my doors central locking has failed over the past year (the drivers side this week).

Hold your hand against the door and see if you can feel the motor operating. If it is, then take the door card off and there is a small white plastic rod that connects the motor to the lock. It's right underneath the flashing LED door knob, and at the end is a ball and socket joint. Both of mine snapped through age deterioration. Luckily they have the part number printed on them and it costs £1.37 from the OPC

My 2nd new one is in the post as we speak, and I am driving around in a semi stripped, door cardless, lightweight racer (its blummin noisy too)

Hi,

Yes you were spot on only mine had just poped out click back in and everythings working. I would be interested in the part no. for these rods and where you get them from because I will assume that mine will also snap eventually.

Thanks for your help

Regards
