944S front brake caliper

hi all
im trying to replace the disc pads on my 87 944S, the pad on the inside of disc is almost worn out but the pad on the outside looks as good as new !
these calipers only have 1 piston so it must have a slide set up, which seems to be jamed.
this is what it looks like

ive removed the two pins holding the pads in, and have removed the inside pad but cant get the outside pad out, i cant work out why and i cant see how to remove the bit that should slide.

the porsche shop sell new calipers but in there photo it looks as if you only get the main body with out the the centre bit, which i think is the part that should slide.

any tips would be great
 
You will get everything thats been painted red in your picture. Youll get it cheaper from German & Swedish or Euro Car Parts though.

The outside pad has a locating notch in it (both have it - the inside one doesn't use it) so once the inside pad is out you need to slide the large outer part of the bracket out, to give 3-4mm clearance on the outer side which will allow the pad to come out.
You can get the calipers apart and clean them up to slide again.

Easy job though, spend a weekend doing it and she'll be fine and yep eurocar parts is the place I got mine from ordered in the afternoon there next morning.

The pads will knock out bottom to top try some wd40 type spray and leave it to soak. Also get a screw driver in the hole on the pad and kind of use that as a wedge to pull out, that and a good pair of pliers to yank it out and she should come out fine.
Go really careful with the bleed nipples and the brake line attachment very easy to brake.

If you can get to Tilehurst this Sat/Sun, I can let you have two callipers in pretty good nick for free. I fitted Willwood 4 pots, but the callipers had been serviced about 6 months before that.

Was it a made-up set Sean, or have you had adapters made? I found the CF door card suppliers details BTW, and it turned out to be a firm who you referred to shortly afterwards. Theyve updated their site and increased their prices, including a 'prototype' premium, making their prices unrealistic for what they have to offer (just a flat shaped CF sandwich).

Personally I'd pop the caliper off and pull it apart to clean up the slides. It's a fairly easy job to do but putting it back together can be a bit fiddly, patience is required with the spring.

A quick attack with a wire brush and a dab of copper grease got mine sliding nicely.

Hi Simon,
The Willwoods were a made up set, bought back in the day when the Dollar/Pound exchange rate was sensible off Travis in the USA. Thanks for the CF card details: eventually, I went "traditional" & fitted a pasha black & white interior. Well, I like it! Must put the leather doorcards up for sale one of these days...

Thank you. I asked Travis a couple of years ago, because I was trying to find out what pads were available, but he refused to tell me so the deal fell through.
 
Pad choice for these is restricted: Wilwood do about five, from squishy boulevard cruising ones to really propper track pads that work from about 300 deg C. EBC do red stuff compounds for these, # DP3039C. The best I've found are Hawk Blue and Porterfield for track.

The great advantage is that it takes seconds to change the pads unless the calliper is glowing red hot..
