944S2 brake bleeding question?

I'm going to start rebuilding my front calipers this week and fit goodridge hoses whilst I'm on. Is it wise once the calipers are removed just to let all the brake fluid drain out of the system and also I've read on pelican parts about bleeding the clutch whilst I'm on, it didn't explain how or why and I don't understand why it would need doing?

Any help is appreciated as always

Cheers

Use an easybleed type contraption as you've got two bleed nipples per caliper and you'll go mad trying to manually bleed the whole system.

You'll be fine to let all the fluid drain from the system, I refilled with DOT 5.1 (NOT DOT 5) as it's DOT 4 compatible and has a higher boiling point.

Are you replacing all your Bleed nipples ? Mine were very hard to undo and needed replacing due to me only freeing them off after showing them the hammer !

A little WD40 and some patience resulted in me freeing them this afternoon but I think I'll fit new ones once I'm done [;)]

Sykes Pickavant do a double nipple one way valve easy bleed kit and it is very good as well as reasonably priced.

Personally I wouldn't drain the whole system down. It can make bleeding very difficult even with pressure or vacuum bleeding & unless you are resealing everything leaving the master dry can damage & swell the seals.

Definitely don't drain the whole system, and if you do so accidently don't move the pedal until you've gravity bled the whole lot or you'll pop the master cylinder seals. Blank off any open ends so they don't leak, this may be a drag if you don't have the parts to do so but it'll be far less of a drag than forking out for a new master cylinder.

I must have drained my brake fluid around 4 times now... Ive had absolutly no problems whatsoever...
I use a "Power bleeder".. I push all the fluid out of the system with this + then just refill it when ive finnished what i was doing..Never had any issues with air in the system...
I DONT bleed the system by pumping the pedal though, so i dont put ant pressure on the master cylinder seals...

I thought I'd put something about the easybleed (pressure bleeder) saving the master cylinder seals, but obviously not.

As Dave says, draining the system has never done me any harm just don't stamp on the brake pedal when there's no fluid in there.
