944S2 Cabriolet.

Hi, Just aquired an H Reg 1990 944s2 cab in blue that has a six speed box of a 928 plus 928 wing mirrors, door handles, steering wheel and bridge spoiler. Does anybody recognise this car? I believe it was first reg H2 DANL.

Couple of questions,
1. The heater keeps changing from hot to cold every few minutes without touching the knob and it can be varied by moving the knob 1mm only, was told this was normal but my 944S was OK, any ideas?
2 The hood motors work OK and hood releases offwindscreen but nothing moves, have been told that this is normally caused by a nut falling off, anyone had this happen?

You're going to have to post pictures of a cab with a bridge spoiler, please!

For the heater; take out the glove box shell (remove the fuse for the interior lights first; I forget the number, but you'll blow it the first time you try this otherwise) and you will see some linkage rods which sit between the right hand side and the gubbins in the centre of the dash. Pound to a penny one of the plastic clips that holds them together will have broken. They are pence from an OPC.

In the unlikely even that isn't the cause then next most plausible is a leak or blockage in vacuum lines that control the heater. My S2 cab had had the one that runs inside the heater blower assembly crimped in the seam while someone was refitting the top on the blower at some point in the past.

Last thing to check with the heater (while the glove box inner is removed) is to pull off the 1/2" rubber hose that runs from the little grill in the black dash strip to a fan on the bulkhead and remove all the lint from the inlet to that fan.

My cab's heater was better than I could ever have hoped; it would maintain a comfortable temperature without touching the knob at any speed and roof up or down.

I can't help with the hood question as mine never gave me any gyp, but my indie did tell me once that if you ever move the hood manually (which you can do to raise it in an emergency without power) then you need to get someone with the right knowledge & equipment to reset it before using the power mechanism again or it will damage something. He was about to do it on another car and apparently it takes some time.

Im guessing you mean a 6 speed gearbox from a 968 + mirrors + steering wheel. NOT a 928.?? And a "bridge" spoiler,,, On a cab...??? I dont think so..!!!!!!!!!!. If it has, well i suppose its personal taste...[8|][8|][8|]
The roof is a compex piece of kit.
Yes it has 2 main nuts that hold it on. These can be loosened for manual lifting + lowering, but i never removed mine, even though i refurbed the whole roof + mechanism....The nuts are located behind the rear interior side panels. There should be a 40mm ish round cap in the side panels remove this + the nut should be behind....If you remove the side trim panel, not that hard to do, youl see the mechanism / gearbox in all its glory...
Ide be wondering WHY they have been disconected in the first place, could it be there is something "drastic" wrong with the roof mech.????

Hi Roger,
I have a couple of PDF files which may be of help. They are primarly concerned with sealing the body, but there are sections which describe the cabriolet hood mechanism, adjustments, switches etc.
It also confirms what Fen says about contacting the OPC if the hood has been closed manually. Heed his words!

If you'd like the pdf files, just let me have your email address. They are about 6Mb each, so make sure there's room in your inbox!

Just resize them to make them smaller, then post them up.

Or, host them online and post a link.

I really am intrigued about this 'bridge spoiler'!

The best way is to upload it to something like Photobucket. When you've done that, there will be a few boxes underneath containing text. Copy the text from the 'Direct Link' box. It looks a bit like this:

Next, in your click the 'Add Image' button on the message editor.
(Circled in red on the image here), then paste the code into it. That's it!

hi Fen,
thanks for your advice, have had a closer look at the hood mechanism, both bolts had been loosened to affect an emergency raise or lowering and only one side even tried to work, could I possibly have the details of your expert
as I dont want to dig any further and cause more damage.

Regarding the heater this looks straightforward enough but, only problem being,"how do you remove the glovebox interior?" doesnt seem to be an obvious set of screws.

Still cant reduce my pics, send me your email address and I will forward a couple.

if you tick the embed pic in post box (next to upload) you will get a thumbnail rather than a link

Roger.
The rear spoiler you have is an aftermarket job... NOT a 968 bridge spoiler....BUT all the other bits you mentioned are from a 968...
I seem to remember seeing your car for sale a while ago...
