944S2 Windscreen

Does anyone know the part number for a 944 S2 heated windscreen?

Ours is cracked and the bloke from Autoglass came out with two types that were incorrect.

Thanks.

I don't know the number but contact the insurer and insist the installer uses a genuine Porsche screen and rubber sealing strip for a perfect fit. It's your car, and you have the right to dictate what parts are fitted. The insurance company may have an upper limit for glass so you may have to 'negotiate' paying a top up fee

Mine was done by Autoglass but I had to go to one of their fitting shops. I didn't have any problems with them.

A word of caution - new windscreens are a sod to see through when it rains. Whether it is something in the production process, the cleaners or just that the glass is so clean and smooth, but water sticks to it. I would treat the screen with Rain-X as soon as you can.

sorry !

meant to say that i didn't know the S2 had a heated windscreen - did all models have them and how is it activated ?

The windscreen is activated by the rear de-frost button, which also activates the mirrors. Washer jets are heated to.

There aren't any heated 944 windscreens... what are you guys on?

Thats what i was thinking....

You must be thinking of the aerial wire. Its not a heating element, its emmmm an aerial wire!!!!

I found the rear screen wash[:D][:D][:D]

I just found a fuse for the heated windscreen[] so there must be one!

it would have been habdy if they did though, i had to check the date and make sure it wasn't april 1st

What is the wire coming down the middle of the windscreen then?

Is this the radio aerial?

The screen the guy from Autoglass had did not have this so he was relcutant to take our windscreen out in case the terminals did not match.

The wire down the middle of the windscreen is the Aerial.

There are three types of windscreen for a coupe with aerial in the screen :-

clear with antenna p/n 944 541 011 13
tinted with antenna p/n 944 541 011 12
clear with upper part in dark green p/n 944 541 0114

Hope this helps[:)]

It is the aerial.

It runs from the lower right hand corner > up > over to the middle > back down the centre.

Sounds like a "copy" screen as Diver 944 guessed which doesn't have the aerial. Maybe it's a 968 screen? You'll find radio reception is better with the aerial-version. [;)]

AFAIK 968 screens and 944 screens are identical. My screen has the sun strip and the aerial, but I believe it was originally only cabs that had the aerial in the screen. I thought that the only type of replacement screen available was the one with the aerial these days - which would explain why my Sport has the aerial - assuming it has been replaced at some point (it needs it doing again[]). Anyway, I think 944 and 968 screens are one and the same...

Cabs were most certainly not the first with the screen aerial - my '86 Turbo had one. I believe all oval dash 944s had the aerial in the screen. Also my '85 911 had a screen aerial, something that either came in with the Carrera in 1984 (as I think) or alternatively with the 944-style seats in 1985. This would tie-in with the 85.5 944 getting the screen aerial.

I can't say I have ever looked at a 968 screen but they all have a bee sting don't they? Otherwise the oval dash 944 coupe and 968 coupe screens will be dimensionally identical. 968 rear three quarter lights are the only different glass from an 85.5 on 944 as far as I know.

968 cabs have the ariel in the screen....
Most 968 coupes dont have ,, they have a "bee"sting ariel.....

I thought the answer to the first couple of questions was dodgy, i didn't realise when i first got my S2 in July about the line in the screen being an aerial until i had driven it afew times and recognised the aerial typr noise.

Interesting reading this has been .
