Guys

Since I've had my car the back window has creaked continuosly except when it gets damp. I've done the usual ie adjusted the rubbers and vaselined them. But I thinks its the actual window doing the creaking. Any suggestions!

Might be worth somebody listening to the noise whilst you drive. If it is the window then you could try pulling the seal back and spray silocan spray under the rubber moving all around the glass.

It probably is the frame rubbing against the seal as you suggest. A new seal from somewhere like http://www.forestfine.net/ will be far more absorbent than the old one no matter how much you lube it (vaseline is bad for rubber, it is petroleum based). It's amazing how much the seals collapse over the years.

Failing that you could try adjusting the hatch pins so that it seals tighter or even adjusting the lock catches that the pins go down into. Loosen the catches a little and then close the hatch so that they find their natural centre position. Then from inside the boot, reach back and tighten up the catches again - but not too tight or they don't operate smoothly [8|]

Hatches can be brilliant [:)] (or the bane of your life [] )

The bain of my hatch is the release button inside makes all the right noises but doesnt release the tailgate[]

Gordon,
Haven't you fixed that yet! I was going to suggest the pins but someone has beaten me to it. Good to see you here.

Open the hatch and then keep the key turned in the lock whilst you look down into the catches and watch the jaws open and close. You'll probably see that one of them is sticking. This could simply be because the nuts underneath are too tight holding it to the body.

More likely is that it is pretty cruddy and gunged up, this is not helped because the rear hatch drains actually divert water THROUGH the middle of the catch [8|]. Clean all the crud out of the catch (WD40 is good for this) but then lubricate it with a spray grease or 3 in 1 oil and do the key test again. Keep it lubed regulalry and with new hatch shocks it should spring open at the mere touch of the footwell button or one turn of the key.

Brand new catches from Porsche are circa £30 if my memory serves well

Thanks Guys.

Paul I've tried the catch/pin adjustment and I'm not convinced its the rubbers because the lubrication didnt help. Can you adjust the hinges at the top?

I found this on mine as well....! The gas struts were worn.... After I replaced them the tailgate would open up fully at the press of the release button....[:D] They have since settled themselves and just release the tailgate [;)]

when they are adjusted correctly the hatch just wooshes up at the touch of a button. I used to press the cab button just as I pulled up and the braking helped the release process so the as I came to a halt at the tip or wherever the hatch went up by itself with me still in the car.! very satisfying.

My S2 has an electric key switch on the hatch release which doesn't work so I can't use a key .I now have to grab a passer by to yank on the hatch as I press the inside button Grrrrr
Where can I get a replacement electric key switch from ?

I love the way my hatch opens, press the release button the boot releases, jump out shut the door and then up comes the hatch...[:)]
