944Turbo

My 220hp turbo has failed the MOT on offside front lower suspension arm having excessive play in the ball joint. I would guess that this is not an unknown problem on 944's and it's probably been discussed before on the Forum but it's new to me so any suggestions would be most welcome.

For road use a competitive soloution is a company called Hartech they repair and renew this part..

It was around £200 after surcharges being refunded when I changed my lower arm.

Quite cheeky but I wonder whether the earlier lower arms could be used on a 220 Turbo which have replacable balljoints and arguably are not really any lighter than the steel items and it seems to be a much cheaper solution too.

Yes the refurbed ones are good value (relatively speaking !) I got Promax to replace both of mine last year and am pretty certain they sourced them from Hartech.

Hartech for refurbs, or a used 968 part from Simon Butterworth might make good. They have a 944 as opposed to a 951 part number, are identical dimensionally but a little more durable. This assumes that you have an ABS offset car: if not then Hartech are the only sensible solution.

Ive got an 1986 turbo alloy arm with very good condition ball joint.
Didnt need it for my car as it was wrongly diagnosed as the reason for a clonk on the front of the car.

PM me and i will dig it out. I got it from Porschapart late last year.

The saga of the O/S/F wishbone.
Many thanks to one and all for comments etc.
Rav, unfortunately its the offside front lower arm I was looking for.
Sulzeruk, the old unit has had to go as an exchange item.
