I think the argument against is that the model designation is 951 but that the dedicated rhd only parts have the 952 moniker.
Personally I like the idea of a whole number just to ourselves!!
I have no axe to grind either way, my service book indicates 952 and the chassis number 95Z no idea of the significance of that.

On the chassis no. the "95" and the "1" are separated by a few characters, 944man is right.
My car has several 928.xxx parts, and several components have VW/Audi stamps and part no.s too. My DME relay even has a 993 part no. []
Exactly. The different designation is a part number thing, not a separate model.
I've always found this odd, anyway. My Lux was always a 944, and although some parts needed to be ordered with a 945 code I never felt I needed to change my signature to "Guards Red 945". It's a 944, whatever derivative, so just enjoy it and don't sweat the small stuff! [

[*]WPO AAO = USA/Canada
[*]94 = first two digits of model No. - Standard 944
[*]95 = first two digits of model No. - 951 (944 Turbo)
[*]Z = Europe RoW
[*]O = USA/Canada
[*]D= model year (1983)
[*]E=1984 up to 1990 L (later ZL) 1991 ZM, 1992 ZN
[*]N = Neckarsulm (build plant)
[*]4 = last digit of model No. (944)
[*]1 = last digit of model No. (951)
The chassis number on a 944/951 is made up of the components above. The model number for a 944 Turbo is 951. As with other Porsche models in the UK, it has some specifc parts for right hand drive (952) and also parts that were used (or superceded) on other models (such as the 993 DME Relay and 928 brakes).

My old 2.7 said 945 in the same place, I believe a RHD 928 says 927 there too.
Maybe it would help if a "952" was defined as "a RHD 951". You describing the car as a 952 would be analagous to me describing my '89 turbo as a turbo S or SE. Even though it 'kind of is', it just isn't [
