Does anyone has 4x4 964?! Today I had strange problem. On my gauge (second from left) red light with picture of differential (4x4) was turned on!once I turn off the car and left it for 10 min, then start it and try to drive everything is O.K. for several miles, then the lamp is on again. After seeking and trying to fix problem I noticed that my ABS isn`t working! I tought that maybe some ABS sensor is damaged so after a while he is sending wrong info to comp. There is one pump (which is pumping oil through brakes and ABS system) situated in front, below hood! I disconnected both cables and returned them back, after that everything is working now!I dont know why that lamp was turned on?that pump has nothing with differential (at least I think)!

If anyone had similar problem please help.

Thank you

Alex,

The 4WD system on the C4 is largely mechanical but the PDAS system, the "traction control" if you will, is operated by hydraulics via two slave cylinders on the transmission which operate the differential locking clutches. This hydraulic system is operated by the same high pressure pump as is used for the ABS and braking system.

In the scenario you describe I'd be surprised if the ABS warning light wasn't on as well and it's possible that the bulb may be faulty (or removed) if it wasn't. You should check that the ABS light illuminates when you turn on the ignition.

Getting the ABS and PDAS warning lights is not uncommon on the C4 - and there can be a variety of reasons for it, many of which don't relate to the ABS or PDAS systems at all!! If you've found a solution - great!! But it may come back!!

Regards

Dave
