964 ABS faults

Hi,

After my crash at Castle Combe and general unhappiness at the way the ABS was working on my C2, I sent off the pump and ECU to Autotek and they have come back and said...
"We have tested both ABS ecu and the pump and found them to be faulty. It seems the ABS pump motor assembly has overloaded the control module and refurbishment is required."

Cost £377 for the ECU and £460 for the pump.

That seems like a lot to me but them hopefully my ABS would be working correctly after this.

Has anyone any experience of Autotek and if what they are quoting is resonable ?

Second hand units would be cheaper but how would I know that they are working as they should.

Also, has anyone replaced their ABS pump ? Is is just a simple case of attaching all the pipes and bleeding the brakes and clutch or do you have to take steps to avoid getting air trapped in the system ?

Cheers

Here's a tale of how changing the ABS pump solved this chap's problem:

I'd see what a used one would cost you from somewhere like Porschapart. I changed the pressure regulator on the pump and only had to bleed the brakes so I think you should be fine. No idea about testing the system except to see if then works in real life!

Thanks Steve.

I know I do need to change the ABS hydraulic unit and possibly the ECU but does anyone know if Autotek are any good ? There is another company called BBA reman in Kent which could be worth trying ?

I'm lothe to second hand units because they are all getting very old now and how would i know if it's working properly. I'd never be able to test the conditions that led to the Castle combe crash on the road....

I understand what you're saying Richard. By coincidence this has just been advertised:

Damm and blast, that is just what I need ..... if only I'd seen this yesterday as I've already given Aototek the go ahead to rebuild my ABS hydraulic unit at £413. I've decided to try that with the existing ECU to see if it works ok and if not I'll try and source a second hand ECU.

I have a spare ECU that you can use/borrow for testing purposes when the time comes.
