964 at the 50th anniversary event

Right guys and girls, we need to be thinking of what WE as a Register would like to to at the 50th Anniversary event on 2nd - 4th September.

Let's make it a celebration of our cars. Since I can't remember anything particularly iconic about the early 90s - apart from the 964 of course! - we'll need to be somewhat more inventive in our ideas.

REMEMBER, this is YOUR REGISTER and what we need to do is to ensure we organise something 964 owners will want to bring their cars along to. This is the reason why I am asking for your input.

Now is your chance to have your say. If you suggest nothing and I have to make a guess at what you'd like, please don't complain if you don't like what I organise!

Hi Amanda....
I was having a little think about your request, and why so many events seem to be sometimes poorly supported with volunteers like you struggling to get numbers for regional meetings, track days etc etc..

After much thought and some waste heat from the old noggin this is my suggestion...

I think "The car is the star" is a red herring somewhat and fundamentally where we lose much of our members interest. Yes the Cars are ace, but its the people, the owners, polishers, and racers who are the real stars, the real glue of the club.

With this in mind it might be an idea of thinking of events for the Celebration that people would enjoy. By that i mean people with other people, involving people, bringing them together to do people things....

for example... Owners send in old pics of them with another car, porsche or something else, and other members try to guess who they are... I have some hideous old pics somewhere. At least i would have a laugh trying to identify people in the club i already know or find out about others i dont yet know.

for example... Quiz nights are always a laugh... so long as the teams are of people, rather than our cars trying to answer the questions lol...

you know, I really think its the people of the club make it what it is, and in life its differences that are usually the most interesting, the cars are just common attributes we all share.

Drone over... hope this helps or at least stimulates a heated debate...

Question: Two porsches at a BBQ, one was old and a classic the other the latest sports equipped model. What did they say to each other?

Answer: Nothing, they are just cars.... [:)]
You have raised a very poignant issue there Gaz!

Events need to be for the human members, which is why I'm asking and want people to be attending for the social side, not just their cars. I like to talk about cars as much as any other,....err well, car enthusiast, but it's preferable to treat the car as an accessory to the person, rather than the other way around!

Many times (events/gatherings past and present) I've arrived in a vehicle other than the 'club car', only for people's first words to be, "Where's your car then?", to which I've sometimes replied "Hello, yes I'm very well thank you, how are you?" just to see if they realise that they've actually said to me!

Amanda best of luck with your 50TH Anniversary plans ... what Gaz says is true and can be done whole year .... you are talking here THOUGH 2-4th September so for those dates this is the ideal post. Meet Castle Coombe Friday then onto RAC for me the rest of the weekend.
