964 C2 advice please

Hi all,
I am currently thinking about a very good condition/low miles RHD 964 C2 coupe. I would love an RS but as my head is overruling my heart, my budget won't stretch to an RS.

There do however appear to be a few good C2's on PH at the moment.

Does anyone know of these particular cars or know of any others out there? - I would prefer not to get a red car but there doesn't seem to be too much choice around currently.

Also, condition and history are, of course, a must but is there anything on these cars that would raise a question mark?

Any advice or thoughts would be most welcome.

Kind regards,
Darren

Having bought my first Porsche, a 964, a year ago, I think there is no substitute to looking at a few. You'll soon get the idea of what's good and the huge variation in condition. When you've chosen one, I'd suggest getting Peter Morgans' crew to check it over. The £300ish cost is nothing compared to buying a duff one and losing money off-loading it. If you're after perfection I can see you'd need to pay £18k+ but a good sound car with no oil leaks and sub 100k mileage can be found in the £13k to £14k range. You then either live with a few 'marks of life' or use the £4k you saved putting them right / upgrading. I tried to avoid red too but having got one in red and 'zymoled it' I cannot believe the brilliance it has. Personally I love white too but I'm in a minority! Personal opinion but I went for a '92 car as Porsche had ironed out a few of the inherent issues by then.

A bit out of season now but going to shows to look at 20+ cars to gague what's good and what's not is also good value - just be tactful with the owners of the inferior ones!

Best of luck,
Mick

Don't be put off by Guards Red. I said exactly the same thing [:D] Looks brilliant if the paint hasn't faded.

i would echo the advice about getting peter morgan to have a look - i got my car earlier this year after peters report said that the car was one of the best examples he'd seen. With a report like that i had almost decided to buy it before it went to see it. So far the car has been excellent and i'm one happy owner[:D]

Thanks guys for the feedback. I'll hopefully get out this weekend to take a look at one or two. It's clear that it's not something Iwant to rush into. Some of you appear to have taken a year or more to find the ideal car.

Regards,

Darren

Slider,
thats the down side of "experts". They know so much about "all" thats wrong with a 964 and talk about it so much that every-one thinks they are a problem car. (except a few of us who can look at a car and see it for what it is).

We benefit from the knock this talk gives the model, - so we get 'em cheaper [8|]

I do a DIY assessment.

Darren,
A tidy 964 in any colour is a great car. Opinions on colours can be varied. Like already said if the paint work is prepared right, base colours can have a real deep shine.
Good luck in your search

ps the best colour is Polar Silver [;)] IMO.
