964 C2 project

I am looking for a 964 C2 donor car to transform into a fully stripped and caged track car
I intend to find a car that is in good standard mechanical order but could be tired and worn inside.

Good luck - I would think ebay would be a great start, else ring some of the porsche insurers and see if they have any marginal write-offs. I know a few that were written off in some cases due to very minor issues which if you are stripping a car down would be fixed.

For your interest,

Here is the final result of my project 964 RS replica

Hi Chris,

I found the car on Piston Heads about 2 and a half years ago, Standard C2 a little rough around the edges, it had done a few miles just over 130,000 but it had a full engine rebuild carried out by Autofarm which is exactly what I was looking for. The guy was selling to get into a Boxster S.

Over time I then had fitted RS cluch and flywheel
lowered H+R springs 40mm and new shocks
Brakes were upgraded to 964 RS black calipers big cross drilled discs (which are amazing!!!)
Recaro seats and Schroth harnesses
RS door cards and RS carpets with Carrerea RS logo in red embroidery
Full Heigo roll cage
Rear middle bumper section changed
Engine chipped and exhaust modification 280 bhp
Fitted pilot sport cup tyres

The car is very tight and a dream to drive and a great fun project!!
sadly though I have sold it now, but had loads of fun with it including quite a few visits to the Nurburgring and other track days in the UK.

I have however just finished a full restoration on the Grey C4 which included a full engine rebuild, I spent the first 1,000 miles lapping the Nurburgring a few weekends ago keeping it under 4,000rpm

also here are some interior shots of the red RS replica

Hi,

After buying the car and doing all the work, can I ask if you managed to make a profit ?

Manual C2 coupes are getting very hard to find now at a sensible price.

Hi Richard,

By all means,

The headline figures are as follows;

Bought the car for £11,500
Spent just over £11,000 on it
Sold the car for £22,000

So a loss of circa £500 on the car itself
I am struggling to put a figure on the enjoyment of it though, but was definitely more than £500 and the running costs.

cheers
Scott

That's not a bad return at all considering that on most cars you never get back what you spend on them.

As you say £500 is a VERY small price to pay for all the enjoyment.

Cheers

Definitely,

I think 964's are great value for money and they hold their value very well.
Its not only 964's, many other Porsches hold their value well too if one buys an older sound car.
my project also proves that you can spend money on them and get most of it back if it's spent in the right places.

The only car I ever made money on was an old Subaru sportwagen bought in San Francisco for $1,000, then drove it 10,000 miles around America and sold it in Lake Tahoe (snow country) for $2,000

cheers
Scott
