Interesting car and price!!!

http://www.gmundcars.com/cars/537/964rsngtclubsport.html.

No doubt there will be an argument for and against this asking price...

Is it the colour? Quite rare I think, or is condition? Or the mileage? A bit of everything I think.

Most NG-T's and Cup cars have very low mileage as most have never been road registered, but at this premium?

Guaranteed that this car will have been bashed about like all the others pre-respray.....

Views?

Manipou, how on earth can you make comments like that if you have never seen it?

Looks beautiful but not what I would be spending that amount of money on.....

Just an assumption, most of these cars were bought to race, if not all. Unlike the road going RS most NG-T's have never seen the road, so the chances are that most of the 8,000 miles were done in anger on a race track probably under race conditions.
If that is the case then there is no way that this car has not had a few scratches.

I could be wrong..

Manipou,
I agree it is a lot of money for a 15 year old car, however just a thought, knowing how much the 964RS owners love their cars, would they buy a new one today, if they were still being made??
If so this car is priced about right[8|]

Yummy, yummy, yummy -a car to be tucked up in a glass box I'm afraid.......

what a assumption! the car has been in collectors hands,i drove the car last month,as new,no paint.Proper storage etc
A 964 rs rebuilt to this condition will cost you more, and no longer original!
It will sell to the right person with the money!
If you think this is expensive ,take a look at its predecessors now!

Well then I stand corrected, original and very rare.

John as for the idea of buying one new now!! Surely the idea of a 964 RS being more common, easy to get hold of and still in production would make the average 964 RS owner wheezy. We all love the car but im sure some people are in ownership only becasue these cars are not depreciating and are of a finite number..

I guess a collector would be tempted by such an original car but surely would have to consider the alternatives...On the other hand if money was no object then would that collector find another one in the same condition?? It is worth as much as someone wants to pay afterall...

agree - superb looking car, and a fantastic colour...BUT..what is it with these low mileage original paint cars that gets people going? As Mel says - if you buy it as soon as you use it (on the road let alone the track) you devalue it - stone chips...more miles on the speedo..risk of the yummy mummy in her Volvo XC90 driving over the top of you on the school run 'cos shes too busy waving to a friend/shouting at the brats in the back/thinking about her nail appointment etc.

so what do you do with it - put it in a garage and pop out now and then with a kleenex to rub yourself against it?

if people bought these low mileage/original paint cars to get a 'good as new' model of a car out of production, and then used it as intended then fair play.
buying for investment - what a waste of a lovely car.

all this b*llocks about originality gets on my nerves - its like the fabled janitors broom hes had for 20 years with 4 new heads and 10 new handles - and everyone seems to fall for it. how many '73 RS's are driving around in original paint and panels now?

if you are worried about the value of your car, in 20-30 years time there is likely to only be a handful of 964RS's with all original paint and no miles - mainly in museums. As all the others will have had at least some localised paint (eg front bumper) and the majority of the mechanical components replaced the value will depend on condition and history..

Imagine keeping the miles low, never going on track and driving soooo sensibly everywhere for the next 10 years in your RS to then realise it makes little difference to the value of your car compared to someone who has enjoyed it fully and maintained it properly during the same time period.

sorry for the morning rant - drive your cars people they were not designed to be endlessly polished

Matt

(who does not have the necessary ÂŁ60k to buy a perfect 964RS...)

I would say if you use it,you will not loose a lot of money ,after all most of the other cars are moving up to meet it,and may well get there one day.
Its also a good job there are cars like this about, and collectors, who can then make these rare condition cars available one day.
I also believe the now new owner to be,is having it set up for track days etc,so look out for it.
Spot on about the broomstick!most of the early cars have been, crashed, reconfigured to look like later cars etc and now put back to the original looking shape, what matters in years to come is a good history, and not to badly crashed a car!And of course a good race history car will outway all the track day toys, even if its had a prang or two.

Serious point ................U can drive all these toys and they repay with very satisfying days on tracks or anywhere else ................there is a happy compromise between putting the money in the Bank and getting some fun out of hard earnt cash..............................i have stopped driving mine to work and back too often , unless of course the suns come out , just look in London Wall car park toady!!!!!

If u got em enjoy em !

Now time to buy a GT2 Keith......before they go higher again, bet i know a nice one for sale.................................u getting the yellow machine out for any track days soon? Couple of GoldTracks Silverstone GP next week and early May ?

I don't think it's all about preserving the value of these cars by not using them, it's more to do with having something that's time warped.....Think of it as a bit like looking at a picture of your wife 20 years ago and wishing she still looked the same. [:(]....If she was then you'd treasure her.

(Good job the wife doesn't look on this forum or you might find the RS up for sale)

Hey thats even more contentious than the thread opener .........................after 35 years i d rather keep the car !!

Hi Vic,

was at croft last week , after fitting a new rear wheel bearing and new dunlop super sport race tyres, the cars a dream , handles incredible , im 110% happy with the peril , i may come and kick ur ass on a trackday soon ...so beware.

certainly did Allan, thank you !!! you should get the letter in tommorrows post if it didnt arrive today !!!

many thanks ..keith

I agree with above. If you are buying an RS track it as much as your budget allows - it is a totally different car in its 'home' environment and just an amazing thrill.

Of course wax and polish it so it looks nice in the garage next to your pile of spare tyres while you are waiting until the next track day[;)]
