964 Front Wings - Do they fit?

Anil

New member
Hi

Just looking for confirmation on whether I can fit 964 replacement front wings (left and right) to my 3.2.

Has anyone done this, and if so, are there any major issues?

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

Anil

Hi Anil, yes they will fit, with a few minor modifications. For the off side all you need to is remove the clip on the bottom leading edge (held on by pop rivets - drill them through). For the near side the procedure differs depending on whether you have a late G50 car or not. Common to both is that you will need to remove a bracket from the back of the headlight bowl on your old wing. Best to drill through the spot welds to remove it. It will need to be fixed in the same position on the back of the 964 wing to locate the expansion tank for the fuel system. There is a big square bracket in the same place on the 964 wing which you will need to remove first. You can then affix the 3.2 bracket either by welding it on or drilling through and bolting it on. You will also need to remove the clip on the leading edge.

The major difference is the fuel filler neck system. On the 964 and G50 cars they are the same in that the fuel neck 'sits' in an oblong plastic carrier that can be unbolted from the wing (four easy bolts). The filler flap is screwed to this also. A doddle to remove. The filler neck is different on the 964 though and cannot be used for an earlier car.

On earlier cars a large rubber seal secures the filler neck to the body at one end and the wing at the other. It is a pig to refit. If you want to upgrade from this earlier setup you will also need a plastic carrier, G50 type filler neck and fuel flap to make it all fit properly. I think the later type is much better - the wing can be replaced in half the time it takes to swap the earlier ones around.

Hope this helps.

Hi Tripe

Thanks for the detailed explanation. This is exactly what I was looking for.
I have a G50, so the 964 wings look like a good plan.
The hard part now is to find a good (or new) pair of 911 or 964 wings at a reasonable price...

Thanks again.

Anil

Just to add to my earlier post, it just occured to me that the early G50 cars retained the early type rubber fuel neck connector. Best way to check what you've got is to flip open the fuel filler cap and have a look - it will be obvious as to whether you've got either a rubber connector or plastic carrier.
