964 or 930 body for my SC????

Hi guys,

i am in a dilemma at the moment. i want to change the looks of my SC targa, i have a original 964 kit laying around but not too sure if thats the route i want to take, the other option is to sell the kit and use the money to buy the turbo arches because i really like the classic look of the car. i need to change my exhaust so this is the best time to do anything as the backbox will differ for the 964 kit. i also have some alloys i will be putting on the car and need spacers, spacers sizes also depends on the route i am going to take

whats your opinions? what effects will they have on the cars value? anyone done either conversion? all comments, positive or negative will be appreciated.

Raj click on the link at the bottom of my post to see what I've done. If you like the look of the standard car why are you considering modifying it?

thanks Bones,

i do like the looks but its just not complete. i don't want it to affect the value of the car either.

p.s, your car looks great. i love the interior. the rear spoiler finishes it off nicely. i got the turbo one on mine which will stay what ever i do due to costs of spoilers for 911's

Hi Raj,

The numbers show that whatever you do to take the car away from standard, it is going to have a negative impact on worth. By modifying the car's classic appearance, some would say it's greatest asset when it comes to price, you are narrowing your potential audience when it comes to resale, taking buyers away from your car. Average to Good condition SC's remain in a buyer's market, so with fewer buyers you will not recoup your investment in a bodykit conversion.

Only excellent original low mile RHD cars are outside of this as they are incredibly hard to find now. Having said that they won't be wildly distant from the best of the rest unless they are serious museum pieces. Personally I would rate a mint RHD SC as one of the best Porsche places to put fourteen or fifteen grand as an investment for the next five or ten years, but then as a fan I would say that :)

Mods like SSI's and later oil-fed tensioners are usually desirable and therefore make the car desirable so should help sell it quickly if not increase the value slightly. Similarly bigger Fuchs than standard; the 7's and 8's are a popular and worthwhile modification and will positively affect saleability and value. Body-wise, something like an RS replica will add to the value of an SC coupe but the finished article will usually sell for less than it costs to do in the first place. All these things assume of course that one starts with a 'worthy' car. If before you start modifying the car has 11 previous owners and 130k on the clock, with only a few MOT's and receipts as history, then it will struggle regardless.

The moral is, spend money on your car for your own benefit and enjoy the mods you do as an expression of your personality/personal statement or whatever. But don't expect them to pay you back when the time comes to move the car on, that is sadly not going to happen buddy [:(]
