964 Register Summer BBQ

It's that time again "" time to organise another 964 Register get-together. With the activity surrounding the Porsche Festival at Blenheim Palace over the weekend of 11/12th July our sights have been set a little further ahead, towards the end of the Summer and we've had a suggestion from Bob Chilton, one of our members, to organise something that might encourage our wives and girlfriends to join in.

The suggestion is to have a barbeque "" with a little difference. The venue is the Elvethan Hotel in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire and the date is 30th August 2009. It's a date that may spark a reminder for many of you because (a) it's a Bank Holiday weekend and (b) it's the date of the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Francochamps. Not wishing you F1 fans to miss any of the action we are hoping that the hotel can lay on a large screen TV for the event alongside the barbeque fare.

As has now become our standard practice, there is a Doodle page where you can register your interest, both for the barbeque itself (at £15 per head) and optionally for a Sunday night B&B (at a choice of £75 or £95 per double room). You can find the Doodle page here and some more details of the menu and the venue itself via the 964uk.com Events page here. At this stage we are interested in how many people would like to attend although bear in mind that we will need payments for the BBQ only some 6 weeks before the event "" roughly around the time of the Blenheim Palace Festival.

I appreciate that the venue is a way South for our more Northern members but in recent times the South has been a little ignored with the meets at Donington Park and Center Gravity "" and Steve Brookes is attempting to redress the balance with a sprint meeting at Curborough some time in October.

I'd also like to remind those of you who have not registered for the Blenheim Palace 20th Anniversary display that there is still time to do it. We currently have almost 90 cars "" every one of them a 964 "" registered over the 2 days of the event but we would like more. Again, you'll find the Doodle registration link on the 964uk.com Events page.

There is also a link on the 964uk.com home page to the order form for the 964 20th Anniversary T-Shirts "" a £10 bargain if ordered before the end of June. They'll be £15 each at Blenheim. I look forward to seeing you there.

Regards

Dave

Sounds great Dave, I have booked for the overnight, a great chance to introduce my wife to the world of Porsche. Thanks for all your efforts in arranging the event. Fingers crossed for some sunshine!

We're doing well so far. 29 people signed up with 3 couples staying over Sunday night. The hotel are suggesting a maximum of 40 people for the barbeque so if you're sitting on the fence don't take too long to make up your mind!!!

Links to the Doodle page are as above in the first post of the thread or on the 2009 Events page at www.964uk.com.

Regards

Dave

Andy,

I was surprised to see what I believed was your car (here) for sale at 911Virgin. Have you swapped it???

Regards

Dave

That's interesting. I've no idea if Andy has owned that one but it was the first car I looked at buying when searching for mine.

....sorry this item is no longer availabe. It was SOLD via Pistonheads....
(well actually not via Pistonheads but sold anyway) Expect collection Friday after fitting of 2 new Tiptronic oil pipes (one of which wasn't in the UK on Monday). So light the fuse, play the music & roll the titles...... Will you see me on Saturday ? Will I have the 964 ?? ..... to be continued...

All those who have registered for the BBQ should have received an e-mail from me this evening requesting payment (to me). Room bookings should be done directly with the hotel.

We still have some spaces left - registrations through the Doodle site via the Events page here.

Regards

Dave

Just a reminder to all those who have registered for the BBQ and have not yet paid. The payments are due to the hotel by the end of July and I would like to remind those who have still to pay to send the cheques to me or pay direct to my Bank as detailed in the e-mail sent previously. Any questions please e-mail me at 964@porscheclubgb.com.

Dave sounds like a great idea, I have voted on the Doodle page for two with an overnight stay. I am waiting for my wife to come back to me ( she has not left me, I mean confirm).I was going to the Castle Combe breakfast on the BH Monday, but as this will be 964's it is much better.
If my wife agrees how can I confirm and pay up.

Keith,

I've sent you an e-mail with the details. If you stay overnight there is no reason to miss the Castle Combe event - perhaps not breakfast but the racing and concours is on all day on Monday - almost on your way back home!!!

Dave

I've just been made aware that the headline in the August Porsche Post shows this event taking place on 20th August. This is incorrect - the date has always been coincident with the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Francochamps on 30th August. as is reflected in the text of the 964 Register report.

Some payments are still to arrive and I would urge you to contact me as a matter of some urgency if you have yet to pay. Places are still available and the Grand Prix is promising to be a good one - a great track and now, one of the monumental battles of all time with Schumacher, Hamilton and Button and the ultimate face off. Not to mention Vettel and Webber biting at their heels!!! Come and enjoy the action with a great crowd of 964 enthusiasts!!

Regards

Dave

Just a quick note to confirm that this event is no ON. We have 26 places confirmed and paid and have further places open for others to join in. Payment can now be made on the day (or any time before) directly with the Hotel. Detals can be found further up this thread.

Dave

Dave & All,

We had the Region 17 BBQ at the Hotel last weekend and it proved to be a great success. I'm sure photos will be posted somewhere on the site soon. When they are you will see the parking, which will be the same again and on the three lawns at the front of the hotel.
Hopefully it will still be dry and I'd ask everyone to be respectful of the lawns and the hard work the gardeners put in when driving onto them. Follow the club flags once inside the gounds and drive up to the individual spaces from the back of the lawns, I will place small club flags on the grass to indicate where.
Members need to be aware the flags will be between and away from the low concrete posts lining the lawns, this will ensure no-one forgets they are there when leaving. You have been warned!

When arriving, the entrance to the bar is obviously through reception and our BBQ area is immediately outside the bar (doors to the garden) and to the left. There is also a side gate from this area back to the cars.

The projector TV screen has been agreed for the GP and will either be in the room directly off the BBQ area or in another larger room.

There are lawn games including Boules and Croquet as well as a Tennis Court for anyone wishing to use them.

Photographic opportunities are great so don't forget your cameras.

Directions can be found on the Elvetham website. Just keep heading for Hartley Wintney and you'll see signs for the Hotel.

All we need now is some continued good weather.

See you all there :))

Bob & Michelle.

Really looking forward to this now, just need to wash and generally spruce up the car now. Aiming to be there just before the start of the GP but have so far only hinted to the Mrs what time we need to be up and away on Sunday Morning [:D].

How's the BBQ layout Bob....do I need to bring the comfy chairs with me again? [;)]

Beware the road works on the M25 - they seem to have been causing some tailbacks today. It's mostly the clockwise direction holdups at the contraflow near J18 but there was a 35 mile tailback there today!!!

If you can avoid the M25 altogether it might be a benefit.

Regards

Dave

No need to bring your own chairs to this one Steve, everythings laid on. Tables, chairs, and parasols to beat back the sun!!

I understand the TV is a large projector type and has been set up in the room directly off the BBQ area.

Snacks will be provided during the race, the bar is obviously open and the BBQ will be ready at the end of the race.

Parking has been organised by the hotel using some club flags I provided, so follow the signs to the Porsche parking area. There should be someone on hand to direct us as well.

I plan to be there about 11.30, see you there.

Bob.

I'd just like to publicly thank all those who turned up today for what turned out to be an absolutely great barbecue. Special thanks also to Bob for suggesting it in the first place and particularly to Michelle for all the work she did in organising it.

The venue was wonderful and the food was very good (and plentiful). Even the weather managed to hold off any rain. We had, I think, 17 cars at the peak and more than 30 people - and a really eventful Grand Prix to watch!!

Thanks again - here's to the next one!!!

Regards

Dave
