I don't suppose anyone saw this set of wheels?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7013368191&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

I got myself very excited when I found these, but as much as i wanted them, i couldn't help feeling there was something wrong...

1. When i emailed he said he would sell for £1000-£1100, i offered him £800 and he said OK!
2. Having agreed that price, I kept asking him to phone me to arrange details, but he said that he had some neck infection and even his wife couldn't understand what he was saying at the moment.
3. He sent me some 3 photos of the wheels, but when i asked for close ups to verify condition and their authenticity, he said he couldn't send anymore
4. He wanted the money via Western Union
5. He is based in Isle of Man, conveniently i have a friend who live in Douglas, i said i would pay the £800 as long my friend could come and check the wheels out first, he said he didn't want to deal with 3rd parties, then went silent
6. He has no ebay history

I really wanted this to be a genuine deal, but from the combination of the above points, I just don't think it was. I apologise to him if I'm wrong. I was out when the auction finished but I see they sold, for £790. Is this someone trying to prey on fools like me?

I was watching these wheels and I also got some very suspicious responses. Listed in the magazine section for a start, advert seemed well written but e-mail replies were very dubious. Not stated as having tyres but he said they had some. Wheels described as mint etc.

If genuine, someone got a bargain.

All sounds dodgy to me too. He should have been happy to have your friend view the wheels, keeping bidders ID hidden, Western Union payment. I think you probably were lucky to escape a likly scam.

I know - it's a very labour intensive and quite unpleasant process. But you certainly wouldn't have found me parked anywhere near a kerb!
