964 speaker replacement?

Can anyone help - my 964 speakers look to be the orignal ones and are pretty shot. Can anyone advise the best ones to replace them with?
Thanks

Hi Frank,

I replaced my fronts with some "In Phase XTC5CX 2-way Component Speakers" http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-in-phase-xtc5cx_p-32108.htm

I paid £150 and they are now on sale at £110. They are not a well-known brand and i was skeptical BUT they sound GREAT after the run-in period of a few hours. The sound is rich, full, and clear. Considering audiophiles claim the 964 has a rubbish sound stage, i think they sound superb.

They look like a copy of the Focal speakers that are very well regarded.

Check out my installation here: http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=948585#948585 I used the original speaker grills for the large and small speakers.

That's a good write up Joe, I'd read it before and made a copy of it so I'm glad you answered Frank's question.

By the way they are slightly cheaper at Amazon with free postage.

Isn't there some issue about being a funny shape & therefore the options are limited.

I could do with some rears.

the fronts are standard sizes and do, if you shop carefully fit the existing mounts and grills - with minor modifications.

the rears are a bit different. still standard size but mounting point holes do vary...

Very nearly sold on the XTC 5CX . especially from Amazon. Are there any other options for all six speakers or what about the rear woofers separately from the fronts?

I would not recommend the In phase speakers at all. A quick google on that particular brand will answer any questions regarding sound and build quality. We have worked on quite a few 964's now and only recently worked on Frank's Black Betty 964 (pictures on rennlist). Consider proper American brands, similar price range to what you have mentioned but superior quality, such as JL AUDIO and ROCKFORD FOSGATE. Also look at HERTZ, which is an Italian brand. PM me, happy to help.

My 1991 964 mid range / bass speakers in the front doors are shot. I have been told that only 1993 model year mid range speakers are available from Porsche . Would these fit directly or should I go for my other option of entirely new speakers?
