964 speedo stopped working

Help
The speedo has suddenly stopped working, the tail gate has stopped in the up position and won't go down even when activated manually from the centre switch. from that I assume that they are both activated via the speed controller and therefore are on the same circuit
Some one has suggested that it it could be the abs? sender unit, why should that affect it.
The price of a new one of those is horrendous. I am unable to find any circuit drawings for the system. Has anyone got any idea / electric circuits that may help. If it is the unit do they secondhand / re-cons? The car runs okay but no speedo / rear tail lift/down
As always any help would be much appreciated
Many thanks, in anticipation.

Craig

Craig,
Surprised no 964 owners have replied yet, but I suspect it is similar to 993 and the speedo/spoiler speed signal does not, I believe, come from the ABS. There are several sources of speed info.

Is your ABS light on? If not then signal probably comes from gear box.

My speedo stopped working and it was a poor electrical connection behind the speedo.

Hi CH964WH

I'm no techie, but I am told there is a circuit board behind the speedo and this controls loads of stuff. I would be surprised if it didn't control both these. I'm sure someone will know. If not PM me and I'll give you the number of my indie and they can talk you through it.

Cheers
Trevor

Hi Craig,
What year's the car? If it's 1989/1990 (maybe 1991) it's a sensor on the gearbox. After this it takes the feed from the ABS sensors.
If it's the one on the gearbox it's less than 100euros, as I did one on my first 1990 car.
For the ABS one, I can't see it being much more.
Hope this helps,
Jon
